\n Two-time major winner John Daly said on Thursday he has been diagnosed with bladder cancer and that while it was caught early he may need further surgery if it returns.<\/p>\n

The 54-year-old American told Golf Channel the cancer was discovered during an app<\/a>ointment related to kidney stones.<\/p>\n

\u201c(The doctor said) it doesn\u2019t look like any stones are in there. But unfortunately, you have bladder cancer,\u201d Daly said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter I did the CT I was fixing to sip on my Diet Coke I got from McDonald\u2019s and he said, \u2018Don\u2019t drink anything. We have to get you back in here and get this cancer out of you.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Daly underwent surgery to remove the cancer but said there was an 85% chance it could return, which would require more surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuckily for me they caught it early, but bladder cancer is something that I don\u2019t know all the details,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it doesn\u2019t look like it may go away. We will just see what happens. Maybe there\u2019s a miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daly told the website that he plans on changing two of his more unhealthy habits as he tries to fight the disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m cutting way, way back on the Diet Coke and counting minutes before I can have a cigarette. I\u2019m trying to quit smoking,\u201d Daly said. \u201cThe doctors aren\u2019t saying it\u2019s too late. Unfortunately, it\u2019s a cancer that keeps coming back. But I\u2019m going to listen to them, and I\u2019m going to try and quit smoking.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it comes back, it comes back. Six months to a year, if it doesn\u2019t go away, I\u2019m going to live my life. I\u2019m gonna have some fun\u2026. Well you know what, I always tell people I\u2019ve lived one hell of a life. No matter what happens, I\u2019m not scared to die or anything,<\/p>\n

Daly, a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, won his two majors at the PGA Championship in 1991 and the Open in 1995.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
