{"id":647429,"date":"2024-12-22T17:30:27","date_gmt":"2024-12-22T14:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/google-pushes-back-against-dojs-interventionist-remedies-in-antitrust-case\/"},"modified":"2024-12-22T17:30:27","modified_gmt":"2024-12-22T14:30:27","slug":"google-pushes-back-against-dojs-interventionist-remedies-in-antitrust-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/google-pushes-back-against-dojs-interventionist-remedies-in-antitrust-case\/","title":{"rendered":"#Google pushes back against DOJ\u2019s \u2018interventionist\u2019 remedies in antitrust case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google has offered up its own proposal in a recent antitrust case that saw the US Department of Justice argue that Google must sell its Chrome browser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">US District Court Judge Amit Mehta ruled in August that Google had acted illegally to maintain a monopoly in online search, with the DOJ then proposing a number of remedies, including the sale of Chrome, the spinoff of its Android operating system, and a prohibition on entering into exclusionary search agreements with browser and phone companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/gweb-uniblog-publish-prod\/documents\/2024.12.20_1108_Executive_Summary_of_Google_Proposed_Final_Judgment.pdf\">filed an alternativee proposal<\/a> Friday, with the company\u2019s vice president of regulatory affairs Lee-Anne Mullholland <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/outreach-initiatives\/public-policy\/google-remedies-proposal-dec-2024\/\">claiming in a blog post<\/a> that the DOJ\u2019s proposal reflects an \u201cinterventionist agenda\u201d that \u201cgoes far beyond what the Court\u2019s decision is actually about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mulholland added that the \u201cbigger problem is that DOJ\u2019s proposal would harm American consumers and undermine America\u2019s global <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> leadership at a critical juncture \u2014 such as by requiring us to share people\u2019s private search queries with foreign and domestic rivals, and restricting our ability to innovate and improve our products.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As an alternative, Google proposes that it still be allowed to make search deals with companies like <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le and Mozilla, but they should have the option to set different defaults on different platforms (for example, iPhone vs. iPad) and in different browsing modes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company also proposes that Android device manufacturers could have more flexibility pre-loading multiple search engines, as well as with pre-loading Google apps without Google Search or Chrome.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Judge Mehta is expected to rule on remedies next year, with a hearing scheduled for April. Mulholland said Google isn\u2019t just planning to negotiate over remedies \u2014 it also plans to appeal Mehta\u2019s August ruling against the company.
