Incoming president Donald Trump has confirmed reports<\/a> that Sriram Krishnan, until recently a general<\/a> partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), will serve as senior policy advisor for AI at the White House Office of Science<\/a> and Technology<\/a> Policy.<\/p>\n

Trump said in a statement<\/a> that Krishnan will \u201chelp shape and coordinate AI policy across government, working with the president\u2019s council of advisors on science and technology.\u201d And in a post<\/a> on X, Krishnan said that he\u2019ll be working closely with ex-PayPal COO David Sacks, who was recently named Trump\u2019s crypto and AI \u2018czar.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI,\u201d Krishnan wrote. \u201cThank you, Donald Trump, for this opportunity.\u201d <\/p>\n

Krishnan, an entrepreneur and VC, previously led product teams at Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo! (disclosure: TechCrunch\u2019s parent company), Facebook<\/a>, and Snap.\u00a0He and his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy, rose to additional prominence in 2021 as hosts of the podcast \u201cThe Aarthi and Sriram Show\u201d (which was then called the \u201cGood Time Show\u201d).<\/p>\n

Krishnan has a close relationship with billionaire Elon Musk, with whom he worked to rebuild Twitter (now X) following Musk\u2019s acquisition of the company in 2022. Musk co-leads the Department of Government Efficiency, a policy group to recommend government restructuring and cuts to federal spending.<\/p>\n

Krishnan was app<\/a>ointed a general partner at a16z in February 2021, and in 2023, was selected to lead the firm\u2019s London office, its first non-U.S. location. He left in late November.<\/p>\n

Krishnan expressed a few of his views on current AI trends in an opinion piece<\/a> last year in The New York Times. He called for \u201ca fundamentally different mechanism\u201d for websites to \u201cexchange\u201d value with OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT and other AI-powered chatbots.<\/p>\n

\u201cLarge internet sites are fighting back against AI models with the internet equivalent of raising the castle drawbridge,\u201d he said, referring to user protests on<\/a> Reddit and Stack Exchange and those platforms\u2019 data licensing programs. \u201cSome industry experts believe the answers are in legal action and older sites forming content alliances. As a technologist, my hope is that the answers lie in code rather than lawyers and that we see creative technology solutions to help keep the internet open.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
