\n A Texas professor is sharing a tale of two forgery arrests in the aftermath of George Floyd\u2019s death, saying \u201cwhite privilege\u201d helped him survive an encounter with police 26 years ago.<\/p>\n

Mark McCoy, an anthropology professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, contrasted his experience with Massachusetts cops in 1994 to Floyd\u2019s Memorial Day death while in custody of Minneapolis police.<\/p>\n

\u201cGeorge Floyd and I were both arrested for allegedly spending a counterfeit $20 bill,\u201d McCoy, 44, wrote Monday on Facebook. \u201cFor George Floyd, a man my age, with two kids, it was a death sentence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Floyd, 46, died on Memorial Day after Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for nearly 9 minutes, an incident caught on video that prompted nationwide protests. Chauvin, who was fired a day later, has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

But for McCoy, the decades-old run-in was something else altogether.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, it is a story I sometimes tell at parties,\u201d the professor\u2019s post continued. \u201cThat, my friends, is White privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n

The disparity \u201chit him like a ton of bricks\u201d once McCoy\u2019s 12-year-old daughter told him Floyd had been arrested by Minneapolis cops on the same charge, the professor told the Dallas Morning News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McCoy, then 18, spent a night in jail and the charge was later dropped after a six-month probationary period, the newspaper reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cI genuinely have told that story of being arrested a lot of time because it\u2019s an interesting story,\u201d McCoy said, adding he had no idea the $20 bill was fake. \u201cI\u2019m kind of a goody two-shoes. At the time, I was the last guy you would guess would run afoul of the law. This could happ<\/a>en to anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCoy got the bogus bill out of an ATM, but didn\u2019t realize what happened until \u201cpolice showed up,\u201d he told KTVT.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have this distinct memory of being handcuffed and talking to the police officer who had arrested me and said, \u2018Well, look, I haven\u2019t eaten my dinner right, you guys picked me up before I could finish,\u2019\u201d McCoy recalled to the station. \u201cAnd he said, \u2018Well, I can\u2019t really uncuff you, but I can feed it to you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The officer proceeded to take \u201cbits of chicken\u201d and feed McCoy, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he thought it was a riot,\u201d McCoy said. \u201cHe laughed, the entire time.\u201d<\/p>\n

McCoy, meanwhile, is now showing his gratitude to the \u201cmore than 2 million\u201d people who helped make his experience go viral.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo everyone who shared their own story and kind words of support, thank you,\u201d McCoy tweeted early Wednesday. \u201cTo the protesters and the police who took a knee, thank you.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
