\n\tInternational Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) has unveiled its \u201cCinema Regained\u201d program for 2025, featuring 43 restored classics, documentaries, and film heritage explorations. The strand includes both contemporary works and pre-1970 restorations.<\/p>\n

\n\tKey premieres include Mousso Fariman<\/em> \u2014 the first film from Burkinab\u00e9 director Drissa Tour\u00e9 (Haramuya<\/em>) in 30 years, co-directed with St\u00e9phane Mbanga \u2014 and The Lilac Wind of Paradjanov<\/em>, a tribute to the late, legendary Soviet filmmaker Sergei Parajanov, from director Ali Khamraev. The film will screen in Rotterdam 38 years after Parajanov and co-director Dodo Abashidze\u2019s The Legend of Suram Fortress <\/em>premiered at IFFR in 1987, winning the prize for best innovative film. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Cinema Regained program will also show a restored version of Jos\u00e9 \u00c1lvaro Morais\u2019s The Jester<\/em>, which was first screened at IFFR in 1988. <\/p>\n

\n\tOther highlights include Lee Taewoong\u2019s Korean Dream: The Nama-jinheung Mixtape<\/em>, examining Korean Cold War history through archival footage; Khavn\u2019s AI-driven Bomba Bernal<\/em>, which pays homage to Filipino genre cinema; and Saeed Nouri\u2019s Tehran, An Unfinished History<\/em>, a deep dive into pre-1979 Iranian cinema.<\/p>\n

\n\tWomen filmmakers feature prominently, with Katha<\/em> from veteran Indian director Sai Paranjpye; Vani Subramanian\u2019s documentary Cinema Pe Cinema: The Theatres. The Movies<\/a>. And Us<\/em>; and Oyoyo<\/em>, a drama from Gujarati filmmaker Chetna Vora, which examines foreign student life in the German Democratic Republic-<\/p>\n

\n\tForgotten or under-app<\/a>reciated film culture is another thematic thread, with such titles as Hafiz Rancajale\u2019s Bachtiar<\/em>, a look at the suppressed legacy of the late Indonesian director Bachtiar Siagian; and Edgar Georg Ulmer\u2019s Cossacks in Exile<\/em> (1939) representing Ukrainian exile cinema; and Ram\u00f3n Rivera Moret\u2019s Todo parec\u00eda posible<\/em>, examining rural filmmaking in Puerto Rico. <\/p>\n
