But on Thursday afternoon, a wildfire evacuation alert was mistakenly sent to the smartphone of every resident in Los Angeles County, a region with more than 9 million people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAn evacuation order for residents near the Kenneth Fire currently burning in West Hills was mistakenly issued Countywide,\u201d wrote LA County\u2019s official account in a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CountyofLA\/status\/1877511010740842650\">post on X<\/a>. \u201cThis alert was only intended for residents of Calabasas and Agoura Hills.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Everyone in my <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>room got this alert\u2026 in Ktown, in NoHo, in Century City, in Manhattan beach. <\/p>\n<p>Must have been sent in error, because there\u2019s no way. <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/M4MlNfxBId\">pic.twitter.com\/M4MlNfxBId<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Brittny Mejia (@brittny_mejia) <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/brittny_mejia\/status\/1877505568195358924?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 9, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several Los Angeles residents posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> that they received the push notification right around 4pm PT, despite being in areas that were quite far from any active fire. The emergency alert interrupted a live broadcast on Fox LA, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/nowayitshim_\/status\/1877507544391832002\">confusing the meteorologist on air<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I have been informed the evacuation warning that many of us just received on our phones was mistakenly issued countywide due to a technical error. <\/p>\n<p>A correction will be issued shortly.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Janice Hahn (@SupJaniceHahn) <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SupJaniceHahn\/status\/1877507489819709661?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 10, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The smartphone push notification was issued countywide \u201cdue to a technical error,\u201d according to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SupJaniceHahn\/status\/1877507489819709661\">LA county supervisor Janice Hahn<\/a>, noting in a post on X that a correction will be sent shortly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Smartphone makers allow government officials to send emergency push notifications to users based on their location, a feature that\u2019s particularly important for California residents when wildfires are occurring.
