\n\tAs wildfires continue to threaten large portions of Los Angeles, the city\u2019s pro sports teams are postponing home game<\/a>s.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe NHL\u2019s Los Angeles Kings were the first to act, scrapp<\/a>ing a scheduled Wednesday night game vs. the Calgary Flames at Crypto.com Arena. The Lakers of the NBA followed suit on Thursday, postponing a matchup with the Charlotte Hornets; makeup dates for the two contests haven\u2019t been determined yet.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re heartbroken for Los Angeles. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this unimaginable situation,\u201d the Lakers said in a statement posted to the team\u2019s social media<\/a> accounts Thursday. \u201cAnd our gratitude is with the first responders and all of you who come together when we need each other the most. Tonight\u2019s game will be rescheduled to focus on what matters most today. We\u2019re with you, L.A.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Friday, the Lakers announced Saturday\u2019s game against San Antonio Spurs has also been postponed by the NBA.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Los Angeles community is in our hearts,\u201d the team shared in a statement. \u201cThe Lakers look forward to getting back on the court soon, honoring LA\u2019s first responders and recognizing the heartbreak endured across our beloved community.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAdditionally, Clippers star Kawhi Leonard missed Wednesday\u2019s game against the Nuggets in Denver to return to Los Angeles and be with family members who evacuated in the wake of the Palisades Fire, according to ESPN<\/a>. Leonard bought a home in Pacific Palisades in 2021. On Friday, the NBA announced the Clippers\u2019 next game against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday at Intuit Dome has also been postponed.

Next week\u2019s events will continue as scheduled at Intuit Dome, with the Clippers hosting the Miami Heat on Monday, January 13, and the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday, January 15. We will welcome UFC 311 on Saturday, January 18. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the NFL, the L.A. Rams are slated to host the Minnesota Vikings in a wild-card playoff game Monday night. As of publication time, the game was still set to take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, but the NFL has a contingency plan in place to move it to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona (the home field of the Arizona Cardinals) if need be. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe UCLA and USC women\u2019s basketball teams \u2014\u00a0both of whom are ranked in the top five \u2014 have home games scheduled for Sunday (vs. Northwestern and Penn State, respectively). The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> has contacted both schools about possible schedule changes and will update this story with any responses. The schools\u2019 men\u2019s hoops teams are both on road trip<\/a>s to Big Ten opponents this weekend.<\/p>\n

\n\tLoyola Marymount and Pepperdine each postponed women\u2019s basketball games set for Thursday. The two schools are scheduled to play each other in both men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball on Saturday, but those games could be pushed as well.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire near Altadena \u2014 both fueled by heavy winds and very dry conditions \u2014 are the two largest of several wildfires in Los Angeles County. Some 180,000 people have evacuated, and five deaths have been reported from the Eaton Fire. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
