{"id":649208,"date":"2025-01-14T20:10:20","date_gmt":"2025-01-14T17:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/openai-quietly-revises-policy-doc-to-remove-reference-to-politically-unbiased-ai\/"},"modified":"2025-01-14T20:10:20","modified_gmt":"2025-01-14T17:10:20","slug":"openai-quietly-revises-policy-doc-to-remove-reference-to-politically-unbiased-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/openai-quietly-revises-policy-doc-to-remove-reference-to-politically-unbiased-ai\/","title":{"rendered":"#OpenAI quietly revises policy doc to remove reference to &#8216;politically unbiased&#8217; AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenAI has quietly removed language endorsing \u201cpolitically unbiased\u201d AI from one of its recently published policy documents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/btibor91\/status\/1879139598468829530\/photo\/1\">original draft<\/a> of its \u201ceconomic blueprint\u201d for the AI industry in the U.S., OpenAI said that AI models \u201cshould aim to be politically unbiased by default.\u201d A new draft, made available Monday, deletes that phrasing.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When reached for comment, an OpenAI spokesperson said that the edit was part of an effort to \u201cstreamline\u201d the doc, and that other OpenAI documentation, including OpenAI\u2019s Model Spec, \u201cmake[s] the point on objectivity.\u201d The Model Spec, which OpenAI released in May, aims to shed light on the behavior of the company\u2019s various AI systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the revision also points to the political minefield that has become discourse on \u201cbiased AI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many of President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s allies, including Elon Musk and crypto and AI \u201cczar\u201d David Sacks, have accused AI chatbots of\u00a0censoring conservative viewpoints. Sacks has\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/3EFk40AbO94?feature=shared&amp;t=6161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">singled out<\/a>\u00a0OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT in particular as \u201cprogrammed to be woke\u201d and untruthful about politically sensitive subjects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Musk has blamed both the data AI models are being trained on and the \u201cwokeness\u201d of San Francisco Bay Area firms. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA lot of the AIs that are being trained in the San Francisco Bay Area, they take on the philosophy of people around them,\u201d Musk <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/llm-political-bias\/\">said<\/a> at a Saudi Arabia government\u2013backed event last October. \u201cSo you have a woke, nihilistic \u2014 in my opinion \u2014 philosophy that is being built into these AIs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In truth, bias in AI is an intractable technical problem. Musk\u2019s AI company, xAI, has itself struggled to create a chatbot that doesn\u2019t endorse some political views over others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A paper from U.K.-based researchers <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2023\/08\/16\/chatgpt-ai-political-bias-research\/\">published<\/a> in August suggested that ChatGPT has a liberal bias on topics such as immigration, climate change, and same-sex marriage. OpenAI has <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/how-should-ai-systems-behave\/\">asserted<\/a> that any biases that show up in ChatGPT \u201care bugs, not features.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
