\n\tRidley Scott<\/span> knew Harrison Ford would be someone special in Hollywood, despite others questioning him decades ago.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a retrospective video interview for GQ <\/em>magazine<\/a>, the filmmaker recently looked back at the casting for 1982\u2019s Blade Runner<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAt the time, Ford, who ultimately landed the lead role in the film, wasn\u2019t the household name he is today. Though the actor had already starred as Han Solo in George Lucas\u2019 1977 film Star Wars<\/em> and Steven Spielberg\u2019s 1981 movie Raiders of the Lost Ark<\/em>, Scott<\/span> still had to do some convincing regarding his casting. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHarrison Ford was not a star. He had just finished flying the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars<\/em>,\u201d the director explained. \u201cI remember my financiers saying, \u2018Who the fuck is Harrison Ford?\u2019 And I said, \u2018You\u2019re going to find out.\u2019 So Harry became my leading man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBlade Runner<\/em> follows Deckard (Ford), a Blade Runner who must pursue and terminate four escaped Replicants who stole a ship in space and have returned to Earth to find their creator.<\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere in the GQ <\/em>video, the Gladiator II<\/em> filmmaker also opened up about his vision of \u201cinventing a new world\u201d with the sci-fi film.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI spent five months with a very good writer, Hampton Fancher, who\u2019d really written a play adapted from [the novel] Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?<\/em> And so I read the book and felt there were 90 stories in the first 20 pages and I thought, \u2018It\u2019s too complex,’\u201d Scott recalled.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cBut I sat with Hampton and said, \u2018You\u2019ve written this beautiful story that takes place in an apartment. It\u2019s an internal story where a \u2018hunter\u2019 falls in love with his quarry. Love your cadence, love the rhythm of your dialogue, love your dialogue, love the idea. I want to see what happ<\/a>ens when he goes out the door.\u2019 And from that moment on, we just went boom.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBlade Runner<\/em> ultimately turned into a franchise with a sequel and TV shows. Ford later reprised his role for 2017\u2019s Blade Runner 2049<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
