Stuttgart, Germany-based Sereact has secured <\/span>\u20ac25mn to advance its embodied AI software that enables robots to carry out tasks they were never trained to do.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWith our technology<\/a>, robots act situationally rather than following rigidly programmed sequences. They adapt to dynamic tasks in real-time, enabling an unprecedented level of autonomy,\u201d said Ralf Gulde, CEO and co-founder of Sereact (short for \u201csense, reason, act\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n Early Spotify and Klarna-backer <\/span>Creandum<\/span> led the Series<\/a> A round. Existing investors Point Nine and Air Street Capital also chipped in as did several prominent angel investors. These include former Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg, ex-DeepMind product lead Mehdi Ghissassi, and past Skype exec Ott Kaukver.<\/span><\/p>\n Typically, robots \u2014 like those Roomba vacuum cleaners \u2014 are hard-coded. Price increase on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Sereact\u2019s e<\/span>embodied AI, however, acts like a robot\u2019s brain, allowing them to analyse and even learn new jobs on the go. This is thanks to a machine learning technique called zero-shot visual reasoning, which allows AI to understand and interpret images without prior specific training on those types of images.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The model, dubbed PickGPT, makes robots smarter. It also means humans don\u2019t have to pre-program them for each task, saving time for the companies that use them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe opportunities here are endless and it\u2019s great to see this kind of innovation coming from Europe,\u201d said Johan Brenner, general<\/a> partner at Creandum.<\/span><\/p>\n Sereact\u2019s<\/span> app<\/a>roach is similar to that of UK startup Wayve, which raised $1bn in Europe\u2019s <\/span>largest-ever AI funding round<\/span> last year. However, while Wayve\u2019s tech targets autonomous vehicles, <\/span>Sereact focuses on logistics and warehouse robots that do things like <\/span>pick and pack, sort goods, and run\u00a0<\/span>quality<\/span>\u00a0control checks.<\/span><\/p>\n Firms like BMW, Daimler Truck, Bol and Active Ants have already adopted Sereact\u2019s software at their factories. However, the startup is now looking to venture beyond the warehouse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Sereact said it will use the fresh funding to develop new \u201crobot hardware platforms,\u201d such as mobile robots and humanoids.
