Zuckerberg\u2019s remarks that the company\u2019s third-party fact checkers were \u201ctoo politically biased\u201d for his vision of \u201cfree expression\u201d probably didn\u2019t help matters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since Meta\u2019s announcement, many users have called out inconsistencies with Zuckerberg\u2019s newfound commitment to free speech. Meta admitted in mid-January that it <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/social-media\/meta-admits-it-deleted-links-to-decentralized-instagram-competitor-pixelfed-194624098.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAABzgTUJBt3MEs0ckdsREiYXNhdjpwedG_TnTBBhsmUw7Bot-Yp0ASgDaJ5jyJWFLY2gkLzXNzyQhR9Yu5b6heMYdRG8emq5ntM9FtwQdxfO3bxkwSzcniUVqTzo9--UKJx8BXreGVpZNMeuXuDxeSIGKkX41bvuGZRT1VGM7kOyy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blocked links to Pixelfed<\/a>, an Instagram competitor. And just days after Zuckerberg took a front row seat in President Donald Trump\u2019s inauguration ceremony, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/tech\/instagram-blocked-searches-for-democrats-and-other-political-hashtags-195612128.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAEWGvnPGWK4ZQ1fQugcR2KIfoBN9CBFIuSZCKF0wYp7Oi93qB28O5w4O4t8mn1nacJMG85wihQoQfAICC826cW2sjh1MjSxgEo6aQUTyy9fPNKWMWQU-Zkk0IyIPAI9lmBwr8-ilYuJE824oHbJcOdhmOsphaOM-pAynzF0tRDXU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Instagram blocked searches <\/a>related to a number of political hashtags, including #democrats and #jan6th. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People outside the U.S. might be considering their options, too. Click <strong>Continue<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">When the pop-up appears, click <strong>Download or transfer information<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">You can choose information from which accounts, including your Facebook, Instagram, and Meta Horizon accounts, to download. Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Choose how much information you want to download, and click <strong>Next<\/strong>. Note from FB: \u201cIf you select Specific types of information, you will be able to choose which kinds of information you want to download, including data logs.\u201d<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Decide if you want to download your info to a device or directly transfer your info to a destination and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">If you select <strong>Transfer to destination<\/strong>, you can choose the destination and schedule future transfers. Once you make your selection, click <strong>Start transfer<\/strong> and enter your Facebook profile password.<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">If you select <strong>Download to device<\/strong>, choose your file options. Facebook delays deletion for a few days after it\u2019s requested and will cancel your deletion request if you log back into Facebook during this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also worth noting, some information like messaging history isn\u2019t stored in your account, so your friends might still have access to messages you sent after your account is deleted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With that in mind, here\u2019s how to do it:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click your profile picture in the top right corner.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Go to <strong>Settings &amp; Privacy<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Settings<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Accounts Center<\/strong> at the top left of the screen.<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Personal details<\/strong>, under Account Settings.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Account ownership and control<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Deactivation or deletion<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Choose the account or profile you want to deactivate.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Select <strong>Deactivate account<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Continue<\/strong> and follow instructions to confirm.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-download-your-instagram-information\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_download_your_Instagram_information\"><\/span><strong>How to download your Instagram information <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two ways to find the web page where you\u2019ll download your Instagram information \u2014 you go through the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/accountscenter.instagram.com\/info_and_permissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Accounts Center<\/a> or your Instagram Settings. For the former, navigate to <strong>Your information and permissions<\/strong> to find <strong>Download your information<\/strong>. To get to Instagram Settings, click on the three parallel lines on the bottom left of your screen, then click <strong>Your activity<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Either of those steps will take you to the <strong>Download your information<\/strong> page. You\u2019ll need to click the profiles you want to download your information from and choose if you want to download it to a device or directly transfer the information to another destination.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you select <strong>Download to device<\/strong>, you\u2019ll have to pick a date range, notification email, format of your download request, and quality of photos, videos, and other media \u2014 the same as with downloading your Facebook info. Then click <strong>Create files<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you\u2019ve made the request, it\u2019ll appear as <strong>In progress<\/strong> under the Current Activity tab in the <strong>Download your information <\/strong>tool. Instagram will notify you by email and on the app when it\u2019s ready to go, and you\u2019ll have four days to download the information.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-delete-your-instagram-account\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_delete_your_Instagram_account\"><\/span><strong>How to delete your Instagram account<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Downloaded your info? Now you\u2019re ready to permanently delete.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s how to do it on the web page:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Go directly to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/accountscenter.instagram.com\/personal_info\/account_ownership_and_control\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>Accounts ownership and control settings<\/strong><\/a> in the Accounts Center.<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Deactivation or deletion<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click the account you want to delete.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Delete account<\/strong>, then click <strong>Continue.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once your account is deleted, you can sign back up with the same username if it\u2019s still available, if you have a change of heart.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-delete-your-threads-account\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_delete_your_Threads_account\"><\/span><strong>How to delete your Threads account<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: If you delete the Instagram account associated with your Threads profile, that will also delete your Threads profile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But to delete only Threads, you\u2019ll need to go to the Threads.net web page on a computer, and follow these steps:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click the two parallel lines in the bottom left of the page, then click <strong>Settings.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Account<\/strong> at the top, then <strong>Deactivate or delete profile.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Click <strong>Delete profile.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">Follow whatever prompts show up, then click <strong>Delete Threads profile.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019ll take 30 days for the deletion request to go through.
