Wonder Woman 1984<\/em><\/strong> has been delayed. The highly-anticipated superhero sequel from director Patty Jenkins<\/strong> is moving away from its October 2 release date, and will now open\u2026well, we don\u2019t know. Rather than keep announcing dates that could change, one report is simply stating that the film will be out \u201clater this year,\u201d while another says the film has moved to Christmas.<\/p>\n

The other day, a rumor started making the rounds that Warner Bros. was going to delay\u00a0Wonder Woman 1984<\/em> yet again. Now it\u2019s official, at least according to the WSJ. Their report says that \u201ca person familiar with the matter\u201d revealed that WB is moving\u00a0Wonder Woman 1984<\/em> to \u201ca date later in the year.\u201d Again: this is from the WSJ\u2019s source, and Warner Bros. hasn\u2019t officially made the announcement yet \u2013 but it seems very likely at this point, since October is fast-app<\/a>roaching.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Deadline says the movie is moving to Christmas, with\u00a0Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman Toby Emmerich saying: \u201cPatty Jenkins is an exceptional filmmaker and with\u00a0Wonder Woman 1984<\/i>\u00a0she has delivered an incredibly dynamic film that moviegoers of all ages around the world will absolutely love. We\u2019re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patty Jenkins added: \u201cFirst and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for\u00a0WW84<\/em>\u00a0couldn\u2019t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie. Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I\u2019m hopeful you won\u2019t mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can\u2019t wait to spend the holidays with you!\u201d<\/p>\n

Wonder Woman 1984<\/em> has been shuffled around a bit already. The sequel was originally set-up with a\u00a0December 13, 2019 release date. Then, it got moved up, to November 1, 2019 \u2013 only to then get delayed, to\u00a0June 5, 2020. The coronavirus then caused Warner Bros. to push the film yet again, this time to October 2. At the time, there was hope that by summer\u2019s end we\u2019d all have our shit together and the coronavirus would be a thing of the past. But of course, that hasn\u2019t happened.<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. tried to press their luck this month by releasing Christopher Nolan\u2019s\u00a0Tenet<\/em> \u2013 with the film first opening overseas before arriving in whatever U.S. theaters were open. But the box office was not exactly what you\u2019d call \u201cboffo\u201d \u2013 one report states the film made only $10-20 million domestically during it\u2019s opening weekend, which really isn\u2019t great for a big Nolan movie. It looks as if that was a bit of a wake-up call for Warners, who are now realizing that if they want to make money on these big films, they have to wait until the films can be played in as many theaters as possible.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s some speculation that the film could take over\u00a0Dune<\/em>\u2018s December 18 release date, and\u00a0Dune<\/em> could get pushed to 2021. But the Deadline story says Dune<\/em> is still holding on to December 18. We\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n

Wonder Woman 1984<\/em> stars Gal Gadot<\/strong>,\u00a0Chris Pine<\/strong>, Kristen Wiig<\/strong>, Pedro Pascal<\/strong>, Robin Wright<\/strong>, and Connie Nielsen<\/strong>. In the film, \u201cFast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman\u2019s next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah.\u201d<\/p>\n
