Japanese alternative rock band <\/span>the pillows<\/b> announced their official disbandment last weekend after 35 years, following a show at KT Zepp Yokohama. A Japanese and English message confirming the breakup was posted on the band\u2019s official Twitter<\/a>\/X account.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The band\u2019s website and social media accounts will continue to operate as \u201cthe pillows monument\u201d and will post updates on the activities of each individual member.<\/span><\/p>\n

In their English announcement, the band thanked their fans for their support the past 35 years. They note that they hesitated to use the word \u201cdisbanded,\u201d but decided to use it rather than \u201cleave room for expectations of a future reunion.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The rock band was first founded in Hokkaido, Japan in September 1989. Their regular lineup consists of <\/span>Sawao Yamanaka<\/b> (lead vocalist and rhythm guitar), <\/span>Yoshiaki Manabe<\/b> (lead guitarist), and <\/span>Shinichiro Sato<\/b> (drummer). Their latest and final studio album <\/span>Rebroadcast<\/span><\/i> was released in September 2018.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The pillows are well known for their theme<\/a> songs and soundtrack work on the 2000 <\/span>FLCL<\/span><\/i> OVA series<\/a>. They also returned to perform theme songs for<\/span> FLCL Progressive<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>FLCL Alternative<\/span><\/i>, and performed on the soundtracks for <\/span>FLCL: Grunge <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>FLCL: Shoegaze<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Outside of <\/span>FLCL<\/span><\/i>, the band also worked on music for <\/span>BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Moonlight Mile<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Ahiru no Sora<\/span><\/i>, and Lucifer and the <\/span>Biscuit Hammer<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
