Now, you don\u2019t even need an account to use ChatGPT Search.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it works.<\/strong>\u00a0According to OpenAI:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cThe search model is a fine-tuned version of GPT-4o, post-trained using novel synthetic data generation techniques, including\u00a0distilling outputs\u00a0from OpenAI o1-preview. ChatGPT search leverages third-party search providers, as well as content provided directly by our\u00a0partners, to provide the information users are looking for.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of those third-party search providers is Microsoft Bing. Based on its\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/help.openai.com\/en\/articles\/9237897-chatgpt-search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ChatGPT search help document<\/a>, OpenAI is sharing search query and location data with Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we care. <\/strong>Now that you no longer need an account to search the web with ChatGPT, it might pose more of a challenge for Google and other search engines.<\/p>\n<p>As we said before, referal traffic from ChatGPT continues to grow every month. ChatGPT search won\u2019t dethrone Google\u2019s search monopoly anytime soon. However, if ChatGPT search adoption accelerates, as it likely will now that it\u2019s open to all ChatGPT users, it could soon find itself owning 1% of the search market share.
