Irv Gotti, Murda Inc. co-founder and noted producer of classic songs from Ja Rule, DMX and JAY-Z, has died at 54.<\/p>\n
Hollywood Reporter\u00a0<\/em>confirmed<\/a> Gotti\u2019s death on Wednesday (February 5), not long after reports broke that he had suffered a second stroke, following one last year.<\/p>\n AD LOADING…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Irv, born Irving Lorenzo Jr., co-founded the Murda Inc. label with his brother Chris in 1998. Ja Rule quickly became the label\u2019s flagship artist, with hit albums like Rule 3:36\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Pain Is Love<\/em>. Many of his most popular songs, like \u201cHolla Holla\u201d and the Ashanti duet \u201cAlways on Time,\u201d were produced by Gotti.<\/p>\n Murda Inc. also released projects by Ashanti, Lloyd and Vanessa Carlton.<\/p>\n As a producer, many (though not all) of Irv\u2019s biggest songs involved Murda Inc. artists, including \u201cWhat\u2019s Luv?\u201d by Fat Joe featuring Ashanti and Ja Rule, and the \u201cmurder remix\u201d of Jennifer Lopez and Ja\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m Real.\u201d Gotti was also responsible for JAY-Z\u2019s \u201cCan I Live\u201d and DMX\u2019s \u201cWhat\u2019s My Name.\u201d You can see his full production discography here<\/a>.<\/p>\n In 2003, Murda Inc.\u2019s headquarters were raided by the federal government, as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering by drug kingpin Kenneth \u201cSupreme\u201d McGriff. Irv and Chris were charged in 2005 with money laundering, but beat the charges at trial.<\/p>\n In August of last year, a\u00a0rep for Gotti confirmed with\u00a0TMZ<\/a><\/em> that the mogul was recovering after suffering a \u201cminor stroke\u201d about six months prior.<\/p>\n Irv Gotti\u2019s cause of death has not been reported as of this writing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
