They peaked at 135.7 million viewers occurred around the game\u2019s second quarter.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"instagram-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DF8H6sJxT5s\/embed\" width=\"320\" height=\"600\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/arts-culture\/music\/kendrick-lamar-super-bowl-halftime-show-7061cd6e\"><em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> this week, pgLang co-founder Dave Free detailed the creative process behind Kendrick Lamar\u2019s historic performance, which featured cameos from SZA, Mustard, Samuel L. We can confidently say that there\u2019s no Super Bowl performance that\u2019s quite like this one,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Free added that he and Kendrick prepared for the event by watching every single Super Bowl halftime performance, drawing particular inspiration from Beyonc\u00e9, Prince and Michael Jackson\u2019s shows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe feel of it is Black America. What does Black America look like, and how to control that narrative of what it means to be Black in America versus what the world\u2019s perspective of that is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The former TDE executive also addressed Dot\u2019s setlist, which mainly featured Drake diss tracks and songs from his latest album, <em>GNX<\/em>: \u201cIt wasn\u2019t about playing the hits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Free additionally confirmed that it all began with a call from JAY-Z, who has helped organize the halftime show since 2020. He said he wasn\u2019t sure if Kendrick would be asked to perform at the game having made an appearance during Dr. Dre\u2018s all-star set just three years ago, but \u201cit felt like the right time for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kendrick\u2019s halftime show quickly made headlines for the many jabs aimed at Drake throughout the 15-minute spectacle.<\/p>\n<p>Roughly halfway through his set, the Compton rap star taunted his arch rival by saying in a back-and-forth with female backup dancers: \u201cI want to perform their favorite song\u2026 but you know they love to sue,\u201d a clear nod to Drizzy\u2019s controversial defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group\u00a0over \u201cNot Like Us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the actual performance of the track, Kendrick self-censored the \u201ccertified pedophile\u201d line but smirked to the camera as he rapped:\u00a0<em>\u201cSay Drake, I hear you like \u2019em young \/ You better not ever go to cell block one \/ To any [bitch] that talk to him and they in love \/ Just make sure you hide your lil\u2019 sister from him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
