That leaves OpenAI paying about $70M.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"bialty-container\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit<\/a> reported its <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/02\/12\/reddit-rddt-q4-2024.html\">earnings<\/a> last night, and while it underperformed in terms of user growth (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seroundtable.com\/reddit-blames-google-algorithm-38903.html\">thanks to Google<\/a>), the earnings report seemed to highlight how much OpenAI is paying Reddit to license its content.<\/p>\n<p>As per <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/social-marketing\/ai-licensing-deals-with-google-and-openai-make-up-10-of-reddits-revenue\/\">Adweek<\/a>, between Google and OpenAI, its AI licensing deal brings in about 10% of its revenue.  10% of its revenue is about $130 million.  We know Google paid about $60 million to Reddit for its content deal, and the only other known company to have a deal with Reddit for its content is OpenAI. That leaves OpenAI paying $70 million to Reddit for its licensing deal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More details. <\/strong>I spotted this via Glenn Gabe who posted about <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/glenngabe\/status\/1890036772920250402\">this on X<\/a> and wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Rough math, but interesting \ud83d\ude42 Reddit told AdWeek that its AI licensing deals make up about 10% of its revenue. Annual revenue for Reddit in 2024 was $1.3B, so 10% is $130M. Google pays Reddit $60M so that means OpenAI is paying Reddit about $70M per year. That number has never been revealed. Again, interesting.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"560\" src=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/wp-content\/seloads\/2025\/02\/GjrCRp6XMAEh5qc.png\" alt=\"GjrCRp6XMAEh5qc\" class=\"wp-image-451884\" srcset=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/wp-content\/seloads\/2025\/02\/GjrCRp6XMAEh5qc.png 1020w,https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/wp-content\/seloads\/2025\/02\/GjrCRp6XMAEh5qc-600x329.png.webp 600w,https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/wp-content\/seloads\/2025\/02\/GjrCRp6XMAEh5qc-800x439.png.webp 800w,https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/wp-content\/seloads\/2025\/02\/GjrCRp6XMAEh5qc-200x110.png.webp 200w,https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/wp-content\/seloads\/2025\/02\/GjrCRp6XMAEh5qc-768x422.png.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\"><\/figure>\n<p>I am not sure if we knew how much OpenAI paid for the content licensing deal for Reddit, but now we seem to.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we care. <\/strong>I am not financial expert, and I rarely cover financial <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> but Reddit seems like an interesting stock.  It\u2019s stock price dropped 15% in after hours trading after it did not meet user growth expectations, which Reddit\u2019s CEO noted may have been due to Google Search\u2019s algorithm changes.
