Stocks in Sweden\u2019s Saab, Italy\u2019s Leonardo, and France\u2019s Thales also boomed. By the day\u2019s end, the Stoxx Europe aerospace and defence index had hit an all-time peak.<\/p>\n<p>Military tech firms\u00a0have also been surging. Sign up now!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>European defence tech startups have also grabbed investors\u2019 attention.\u00a0In 2024, they attracted <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/6c21daac-1a07-4fe2-bd32-7237a8285717\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a record $5bn<\/a> in VC funding \u2014 a 24% increase over the previous year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The momentum has raised expectations of future public listings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany defence tech startups haven\u2019t gone public yet, but with the market heating up and investor interest growing, there\u2019s a strong possibility we\u2019ll see more IPOs in the near future,\u201d Leaman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat could open the door to fresh investment opportunities and raise the profile of these emerging companies.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_push_for_defence_tech\"><\/span>The push for defence tech<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The spending spree comes amid mounting concerns about Europe\u2019s military sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders across the continent have been shaken by the Russia-Ukraine war and tensions with the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine\u2019s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has called for the creation of an \u201carmy of Europe\u201d. His French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, has urged his allies to \u201cwake up\u201d and spend more on defence. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen\u00a0wants to trigger an <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/von-der-leyen-proposes-triggering-clause-to-massively-boost-defense-spending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">emergency clause<\/a> exempting military expenditures from the fiscal restraints on EU countries.<\/p>\n<p>A growing share of their budgets is going to military tech \u2014 and startups are beginning to cash in.<\/p>\n<p>According to a new report <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/industries\/aerospace-and-defense\/our-insights\/european-defense-tech-start-ups-in-it-for-the-long-run\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">from McKinsey<\/a>, investment in European defence tech startups increased by over 500% between 2021 and 2024 compared to the previous three years.<\/p>\n<p>The report added, however, that the sector remains about five years behind the US\u2019s in terms of maturity.<\/p>\n<p>A major factor in this gap is the struggle to secure late-stage funding \u2014 <span style=\"color: #2e2e2e;\">a common problem for European startups across industries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, the rise of defence tech is set to continue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMilitary spending is rapidly moving away from traditional hardware toward software, drones, and robotic solutions,\u201d Leaman said. \u201cAs a result, defence tech companies specialising in these areas may enjoy increasing demand for their products and services.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-main-content\" class=\"c-richText c-richText--large\">\n<p><i><span>Defence tech is a key <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a> at this year\u2019s Assembly, the invite-only policy track of\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span>TNW Conference<\/span><\/i><i><span>.
