Their mission: usher in a new era of dexterity that will transform robotics and human productivity.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the group span startups, university labs, public research organisations, and large companies. Their failure to match the flexibility, speed, and precision of humans has severely restricted their use.<\/p>\n<p>Algorithms, meanwhile, are rapidly reaching new levels of intelligence. ARIA wants the hardware to catch up.<\/p>\n<p>The agency argues that there\u2019s a pressing need for progress. The proportion of the global population aged over 65 is set to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>le by 2100. At the same time, labour shortages for physically demanding jobs are increasing. Robots could provide essential support.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_robotics_teams\"><\/span>The robotics teams<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Members of the programme have proposed diverse solutions to the challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Arthur Robotics, a startup based in London, wants to commercialise an mechnical hand inspired by biology. Focused on manufacturing, the motorised limb blends soft, deformable contact surfaces with rich tactile sensing and reinforcement learning.<\/p>\n<p>A team led by Lorenzo Jamone, an associate professor in robotics and AI at University College London, will develop electronic skin. Based on magnetic <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>, the skin aims to measure 3D contact forces at multiple points. It can also bend and stretch.<\/p>\n<p>Startups from outside the UK are also contributing. Denmark\u2019s Pliantics will create soft linear actuators, which will serve as \u201cartificial muscles\u201d that enhance a robot\u2019s physical interactions. Another set of artificial muscles will be built by Artimus, a US company, alongside researchers from the University of Bristol.<\/p>\n<p>Nicholas Kellaris, the co-founder and Chief Research Officer of Artimus, praised the project\u2019s emphasis on cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis programme is unique in how it encourages and actively facilitates collaboration amongst creators at all levels of development, from fundamental hardware to the simulation, integration, and validation of full solutions,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to have the opportunity to [join] this multi-level and cross-disciplinary <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_ARIA_model\"><\/span>The ARIA model<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Established in 2023, ARIA funds \u201chigh-risk, high-reward\u201d research. The strategy has drawn comparisons to DARPA, a US Department of Defence agency that develops emerging technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon unit has been involved in a variety of transformative innovations, from the internet and GPS to stealth technology and autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>At ARIA, a diverse array of projects is already underway. One unveiled last year plans to provide<span> \u201cquantitative safety guarantees\u201d for AI with digital gatekeepers. Another aims to create early warning systems for climate tipping points.
