\n Mayor Giuliani? Yes it could happ<\/a>en again.<\/p>\n

While the 76-year-old former occupant of Gracie Mansion won\u2019t be returning to his old job, his 34-year-old son Andrew is taking a hard look at running for mayor in 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am certainly thinking about it. It\u2019s something that a bunch of people that I trust have approached me with,\u201d the younger Giuliani told The Post. \u201cIt\u2019s been terrible to see over the last few years how the city has spiraled. I am afraid if the right candidate doesn\u2019t win in 2021, four more years of de Blasio\u2019s policies will remind us of the 80s.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMayor de Blasio\u2019s administration has failed New York as he does not value the New York Police Department and he does not value what they have done for the city,\u201d Giuliani continued, singling out recent budget cuts and the disbanding of the NYPD\u2019s undercover anti-crime unit.<\/p>\n

Andrew Giuliani has spent more than three years working in the White House as a public liaison assistant to President Trump and \u2014 like his father \u2014 has developed a close working relationship with the billionaire. They sometimes meet four times a week when things get busy. His portfolio involves interfacing between the White House and a variety of business, nonprofit and other groups.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe deal with everyone from Tim Cook to Kim Kardashian and everybody in between,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Giuliani, who once aspired to be a professional golfer, also occasionally hits the links with Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am a couple of strokes better,\u201d he laughed, adding that he preferred being on the president\u2019s team. \u201cYou always want to be careful about beating your boss.\u201d<\/p>\n

Giuliani stressed that his energies right now are focused on reelecting the president before attending to his personal ambitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am trying to make sure the president gets over the finish line on November 3rd and then right after that my focus is going to be on how we can save New York City again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Giuliani said he\u2019s been mulling running for the city\u2019s top job with his father for the past six weeks. Rudy Giuliani served as mayor from 1994 to 2001 and is widely credited with curbing out-of-control crime and leading New York through the 9\/11 terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n

If he did seek the Republican nomination, Andrew Giuliani would potentially face stiff resistance from supermarket billionaire John Catsimatidis, who is also considering a run \u2014 and has pledged to spend $100 million of his own money to win. The Giuliani and Catsimatidis families are personally tight and the elder Giuliani has spoken enthusiastically about John Catsimatidis potential run.<\/p>\n

If he doesn\u2019t ultimately pull the trigger, Andrew Giuliani said he could only support a candidate who followed what he called the \u201cGiuliani playbook\u201d of governing the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s broken-windows policing, it\u2019s empowering the NYPD to do their job, it\u2019s bringing the private sector in and making them more accountable for creating economic opportunity, it\u2019s reintroducing the free market to some of these low income communities in New York City that have been stuck on the cycle of government dependency for so long,\u201d he said. \u201cThe nucleus of all of it is public safety. It\u2019s making sure that New Yorkers feel safe and that tourists feel safe coming here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andrew Giuliani, whose mom is former TV news<\/a>woman Donna Hanover, Rudy\u2019s second wife, has kept a low profile over the last two decades and may need an image makeover if he\u2019s going to make a splash in the Big Apple. If New Yorkers remember him at all, it is likely for less than glorious moments \u2014 like when he sued Duke University for kicking him off the golf team in 2008 over acts of misbehavior (the case was later dismissed).<\/p>\n

There was also his famously comical antics at his father\u2019s first inauguration as mayor in 1994. As Rudy took the oath, then 7-year-old Andrew mouthed along with him, and blew kisses to the crowd from the podium. The moment was memorably lampooned by Saturday Night Live in a sketch by the late comedia<\/a>n Chris Farley.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never really tried to get past it. I just tried to live my life. But I do wish I could have had a chance to meet Chris Farley,\u201d Andrew Giuliani said, remembering the moment.<\/p>\n

Since 2017, he\u2019s been married to real estate executive Zivile Rezgyte, who \u2014 much to dad\u2019s delight \u2014 he met at Yankee Stadium. So far there are no children, but Andrew says he hopes they\u2019ll be on the way soon.<\/p>\n

A mayoral run would also likely revive interest in the messy divorce between Rudy Giuliani and Hanover. Mayor Giuliani famously announced the couple\u2019s split during a Bryant Park news conference in May 2000 \u2014 without previously informing Hanover. She took $6.8 million in an out of court settlement two years later.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a relationship with both of them that I treasure,\u201d Andrew Giuliani, a dead ringer for his mom, said. \u201cLike any family we have our disagreements and my dad and I are two stubborn Italians \u2014 so those disagreements can get heated \u2013 but I am very blessed to have a relationship with both of them.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
