While most movie productions have been shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, a new\u00a0Children of the Corn<\/em><\/strong> movie that filmed in\u00a0Australia found ways to keep going. The movie has now wrapp<\/a>ed, and details are finally trickling out, including cast members and a brief synopsis. From the looks of things, this latest take on Stephen King<\/strong>\u2018s short story will be a prequel, detailing how those children of the corn got so darn creepy to begin with.<\/p>\n

Last month, word broke that yet another\u00a0Children of the Corn<\/em> movie was on the way. The news<\/a> came accompanied with the surprising reveal that the production, which was set up in Australia, was able to keep filming while virtually every other film production shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. At the time, all we really knew about the film beyond that was that\u00a0Kurt Wimmer<\/strong> was in the director\u2019s chair.<\/p>\n

Now, Variety has more info. Elena Kampouris<\/strong> (Before I Fall<\/em>), Kate Moyer<\/strong> (When Hope Calls<\/em>), Callan Mulvey<\/strong> (Avengers: Endgame<\/a><\/em>), and Bruce Spence<\/strong> (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King<\/em>) are part of the cast, and, as producer\u00a0Lucas Foster<\/strong> puts it, this new\u00a0Corn<\/em> has \u201calmost nothing to do with\u201d the 1984\u00a0Children of the Corn<\/em> movie. That\u2019s not really a surprise, all things considered since pretty much every single\u00a0Children of the Corn<\/em> sequel has almost nothing to do with the film preceding it.<\/p>\n

The new\u00a0Children of the Corn<\/em> \u201cdescribes the events leading up to, and including, the massacre of the adults of a small town in Nebraska by their children, after the adults\u2019 irresponsibility ruins the crop and the children\u2019s future.\u201d In case you\u2019re rusty on the whole\u00a0Children of the Corn<\/em> story, the first film followed a couple \u2013 played by\u00a0Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton \u2013 who wound up in the creepy town of\u00a0 Gatlin, Nebraska, where all the adults are dead, and a horde of evil kids run wild. This synopsis sounds like it\u2019s going to be a prequel to that story.<\/p>\n

Children of the Corn<\/em> 1984 was adapted from the Stephen King story of the same name, but it was a very loose adaptation. The story is brief, and ends on a rather nasty note. It also doesn\u2019t go into specific detail as to how the town of Gatlin ended up in its nightmarish state, so that\u2019s where this new movie comes in, I suppose. Based on everything I\u2019m reading here, I\u2019m 99.9% sure this latest\u00a0Children of the Corn<\/em> is going to be a straight-to-VOD flick, as that\u2019s par for the course for the series<\/a> at this point.<\/p>\n
