Confidential\u2019<\/a><\/li><li class='ez-toc-page-1 ez-toc-heading-level-2'><a class=\"ez-toc-link ez-toc-heading-13\" href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/14-actors-who-won-oscars-for-playing-sex-workers\/#Charlize_Theron_in_%E2%80%98Monster\" >Charlize Theron in \u2018Monster\u2019<\/a><\/li><li class='ez-toc-page-1 ez-toc-heading-level-2'><a class=\"ez-toc-link ez-toc-heading-14\" href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/14-actors-who-won-oscars-for-playing-sex-workers\/#Emma_Stone_in_%E2%80%98Poor_Things\" >Emma Stone in \u2018Poor Things\u2019<\/a><\/li><li class='ez-toc-page-1 ez-toc-heading-level-2'><a class=\"ez-toc-link ez-toc-heading-15\" href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/14-actors-who-won-oscars-for-playing-sex-workers\/#Mikey_Madison_in_%E2%80%98Anora\" >Mikey Madison in \u2018Anora\u2019<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAccepting her best actress Oscar on Sunday, Mikey Madison was greeted with cheers when she thanked the sex worker community for their contributions to <em>Anora<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cAll of the incredible women I have had the privilege of meeting from that community have been one of the highlights of this entire experience,\u201d she told the Dolby Theatre crowd. \u201cI will continue to support and be an ally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>Anora<\/em>, which swept nearly all of its six nominations, including a win for best picture, tells the story of sex worker Anora Mikheeva, a s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>per who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, played by Mark Eydelshteyn. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThough many lauded the film\u2019s big night as a historic moment for historically taboo subject matter, Hollywood (and the Oscars) actually has a long history of recognizing those in the sex worker community \u2014\u00a0going all the way back to the first-ever ceremony in 1928, when Janet Gaynor won for <em>Street Angel<\/em>, and in 1960, when both female acting categories \u2014 supporting and lead \u2014 went to women who portrayed sex workers, Shirley Jones in <em>Elmer Gantry<\/em> and Elizabeth Taylor in <em>BUtterfield 8<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>Anora<\/em> isn\u2019t even the first sex work movie to take home best picture \u2014 1969\u2019s <em>Midnight Cowboy<\/em>, about the friendship of two hustlers, didn\u2019t take home any acting trophies, but did win best picture, best director and best adapted screenplay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOf course, representation is only half the battle, and the below list doesn\u2019t take into consideration how respectfully each film might be received by the real-life sex worker community today. But the <em>Anora<\/em> team did a lot of work to make sure their 2024 representation was authentic, and several former sex workers told <em>The Hollywood Reporter <\/em>that the film got a lot (but not all) right. Madison, for her part, sang the praises of the profession during <em>THR<\/em>\u2018s roundtable. \u201cIt\u2019s not only physically demanding, but it\u2019s mentally demanding as well, because you\u2019re having to walk up to someone and im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely try to connect with them,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then physically, you\u2019re on your feet all day, dancing in these really tall stilettos.
