Google search grew, and ChatGPT&#8217;s market share is less than 1%.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"bialty-container\">\n<p>Despite being a popular talking point, people aren\u2019t (yet?) abandoning Google Search and using ChatGPT search or other AI chatbots.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the number of Google searches increased year over year,\u00a0and Google Search handles 373 times more searches than ChatGPT, according to a new analysis by SparkToro co-founder Rand Fishkin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we care.<\/strong> Many search marketers, users, and analysts have speculated that AI tools are reducing Google\u2019s dominance in search. However, this research finds no evidence that vast numbers of searchers are abandoning Google for ChatGPT and other AI search engines and chatbot experiences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the numbers<\/strong>. Even if all ChatGPT\u2019s 1 billion messages per day were search-related, its total share of the search market would be less than 1%. (ChatGPT used search to answer 46% of queries, and only 30% of ChatGPT prompts fell into \u201ctraditional\u201d search-like behavior, according to a Semrush study.)<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Google saw more than 5 trillion searches in 2024, or about 14 billion per day, giving it a 93.57% market share.<\/li>\n<li>ChatGPT saw an estimated 37.5 million search-like prompts per day, giving it a 0.25% market share. As a reminder, an estimated 60% of Google searches ended without a click in 2024. That means more than 3 trillion searches in 2024 ended without a click.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dig deeper.
