That\u2019s according to its developer, UK startup Phasecraft.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bristol- and London-based company describes the breakthrough as the largest single leap in quantum simulations to date \u2014 moving us a step closer to real-world quantum <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quantum computers improve on classical simulations by accurately modelling complex quantum behaviours \u2014 like the ever-changing interactions between molecules or the evolution of materials over time \u2014 that are too difficult for classical computers to simulate efficiently. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This could lead to technological leaps in various fields, from energy to manufacturing and medicine. For example, quantum computers could simulate materials in a battery far more accurately than ever before, enabling scientists to <span style=\"color: #0c0c0c;\">design materials<\/span> that store energy more efficiently, last longer, and charge faster.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<p class=\"ica-text__title\">TNW Conference &#8211; The 2025 Agenda has just touched down<\/p>\n<p>Discover the insightful and dare we say controversial sessions that will take place June 19-20.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, quantum computers are not yet fast enough to make those world-changing calculations. Phasecraft\u2019s new<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> algorithm, called THRIFT, promises to accelerate the process. By optimising quantum simulation, THRIFT enables scientists to model new materials and chemicals faster and more accurately, even on today\u2019s slow machines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In tests, THRIFT improved simulation estimates for a key benchmark in quantum physics \u2014 the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model \u2014 by a factor of 10. The advance enables simulations that are 10 times larger and can run 10 times longer than those produced by standard methods. The findings were published in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nature Communications<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve managed to show a 10x increase on today\u2019s machines, and we\u2019d expect this to only get better as the hardware advances and quantum computers become better at tolerating errors and handling more complex calculations,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raul Santos, Phasecraft\u2019s lead quantum scientist, told TNW.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_future_of_quantum_simulations\"><\/span>The future of quantum simulations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the last year or so, the obscure world of quantum computing has emerged from the lab and entered the public domain \u2014 fuelled by Big Tech\u2019s recent progress in quantum processors. In the past few months alone, Google launched a chip called<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Willow, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft unveiled<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Majorana, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Amazon revealed<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ocelot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advances in quantum computing are only good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for Phasecraft. \u201cThis algorithm enhances efficiency on near-term devices, like those Google and Microsoft have announced,\u201d said Santos. \u201cAny improvements in their performance can only enhance our approach.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than waiting for years or even decades for quantum hardware to mature sufficiently, Phasecraft is redesigning a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lgorithms to work on today\u2019s imperfect quantum machines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Phasecraft was founded in 2019 by professors Ashley Montanaro (CEO), Toby Cubitt (CTO), and John Morton (director). The company spun out of the University of Bristol and UCL.
