\n Oregon\u2019s top fire official has resigned as blazes continue to ravage the state and displace thousands of people.<\/p>\n

Fire marshal Jim Walker gave his resignation Saturday to the superintendent of the Oregon State Police, Oregon Live reported.<\/p>\n

It came hours after the force announced that he was placed on paid administrative leave.<\/p>\n

No reason was given for his departure, but a source said that Police Superintendent Travis Hampton had lost faith that Walker could handle the unprecedented wildfires, the news<\/a>paper reported.<\/p>\n

Chief Deputy Mariana Ruiz-Temple has been appointed to serve as the new fire marshal.<\/p>\n

\u201cMariana has led with grace, transparency and courage,\u201d Gov. Kate Brown said in a statement. \u201cShe embodies the experience Oregon needs to face this crisis, in this moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fires have killed at least ten people and burned more than 1 million acres throughout the state, Oregon Live reported.<\/p>\n

At least 40,000 people have fled their homes, while about a half-million others have either been told to leave or prepare to do so, Brown said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
