ETPs let investors buy and sell Bitcoin without directly owning the cryptocurrency. Book now and increase your visibility and connections at TNW Conference<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This enables investments in Bitcoin\u2019s price movements through a traditional brokerage account without needing a digital wallet or dealing with the complexities of buying Bitcoin directly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ETPs offer institutional investors a way of accessing crypto without exposing themselves to the risks inherent in investing natively,\u201d Anthony Yeung<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, CCO of Coincover, told TNW.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This type of investment vehicle is gaining momentum globally. Investors have already poured a combined <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$50bn into BlackRock\u2019s Bitcoin ETPs in the US.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf BlackRock\u2019s success in the US is anything to go by, this will generate significant inflows of institutional cash [in Europe] \u2014 positively impacting Bitcoin price and helping drive acceptance of crypto as an essential asset to hold in a balanced portfolio,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yeung said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Europes_ETP_landscape\"><\/span>Europe\u2019s ETP landscape<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Europe was slower to adopt ETPs than the US, it is now catching up. That\u2019s partly thanks to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the EU\u2019s Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation, which entered force late last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The legislation provides a clear and structured framework for launching new products.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> US, oversight is more fragmented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last year, Europe had $12bn of ETP assets under management. While that still paled in comparison to the US ($57bn), it represents a tenfold increase from 2020 levels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of investment options, though, Europe hosts 135 ETPs \u2014 far more than the US (35).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The largest ETP issuers in Europe last year were the US-based CoinShares, Switzerland\u2019s 21Shares, and London-headquartered ETC Group, according to <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.trackinsight.com\/en\/etf-news\/etfs-charted-eus-crypto-etps-landscape\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Track Insight<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">James Burnie, fintech expert at British law firm gunnercooke, told TNW that BlackRock\u2019s entry into Europe\u2019s maturing ETP market is an added boost for the sector. \u201cIt gets traditional finance comfortable with dealing in crypto assets,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHowever, given that the crypto markets are now already considered a mainstay of finance, such moves are now becoming less impactful,\u201d he added. \u201cSoon the scrutiny will be more on any large traditional player not being in the industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Habibi echoes Burnie\u2019s sentiments about the sector\u2019s maturity.
