Uncle Luke of the 2 Live Crew has opened up about throwing hands with Run-DMC and Redman for \u201cdisrespecting\u201d Southern Hip Hop.<\/p>\n
In a video posted to Instagram, the Miami Bass pioneer reminisced over the South\u2019s literal fight for respect in the rap game<\/a> in the 1980s and 1990s, when lyrically-minded MCs from the East Coast were seen by many as superior.<\/p>\n AD LOADING…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cDo you know how many fights I had to have? We was in Biloxi, Mississippi and got into fisticuffs with Run-DMC on stage because we was them n-ggas from Miami and we were \u2018Bama,\u201d he said. \u201cEverybody had disrespect for us. We weren\u2019t supposed to be in Hip Hop.\u201d<\/p>\n Luke also said that he and 2 Live Crew once \u201cgot into fisticuffs with Redman\u201d and took issue with the New Jersey native\u2019s mid-song skit on 1992\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m a Bad\u201d<\/a> which made fun of their distinct style of music and slang.<\/p>\n The \u201cMe So Horny\u201d hitmaker went on to revisit similar grievances with Salt-N-Pepa, Kid \u2018n Play and Eric B. & Rakim.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were in Louisiana with Salt-N-Pepa and Kid \u2018n Play. They got on BET and said, \u2018That shit that they doing in Miami is not Hip Hop.\u2019 When I saw them, I had to have a conversation with them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWent to Memphis, Eric B. & Rakim, they gave us three minutes [to perform].
