This update was a typical core update where Google updates its core ranking system to make search results more relevant and helpful.<\/p>\n<p>This update followed the December 2024 core update. It took a few months for Google to release a new core update despite expecting the core updates to be <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seroundtable.com\/google-core-updates-more-often-38569.html\">more frequent<\/a> in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Google said.\u00a0<\/strong>Google\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/status.search.google.com\/incidents\/zpmwuSwifjDjfrVdaZUx\">said<\/a>\u00a0about this core update:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u00a0\u201cThe rollout was complete as of March 27, 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>What we saw.\u00a0<\/strong>The initial rollout seemed to kick in within a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seroundtable.com\/google-march-2025-core-update-status-39073.html\">few days<\/a> after the update was announced. Some sites saw big swings both up and down, in terms, of ranking improvements or decline.  But this update did not seem as widespread as some previous core updates, where it had a wider impact on a more diverse site of sites. That is not to say this update was not big for those who were impacted by it \u2013 it 100% was very big for those sites.<\/p>\n<p>During the update, some of the tracking tools <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seroundtable.com\/google-march-2025-core-update-volatility-hits-39107.html\">were tripped up<\/a> by some Google Search result page changes. That may make it hard for some to track the impact of this update. But you can use Google Search Console to see your impact for your site and see position changes for your most popular keywords.<\/p>\n<p>Then, we saw some <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seroundtable.com\/google-march-2025-core-update-volatility-39133.html\">additional volatility spike<\/a> at the tail end of this update.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Previous communication.\u00a0<\/strong>Google told us weeks ago that an\u00a0update was coming soon\u00a0but websites negatively impacted by the\u00a0September 2023 helpful content update\u00a0should not expect to see big recoveries. It is too soon to know what type of impact this November core update will have.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to do if you are hit.\u00a0<\/strong>Google has\u00a0given advice\u00a0on what to consider if you are negatively impacted by a core update in the past. Google has not really given much new advice here but here is the past advice the company provided:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There aren\u2019t specific actions to take to recover. A negative rankings impact may not signal anything is wrong with your pages.<\/li>\n<li>Google has offered a list of\u00a0questions to consider if your site is hit by a core update.<\/li>\n<li>Google said you can see a bit of a\u00a0recovery between core updates\u00a0but the biggest change would be after another core update.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In short, write helpful content for people and not to rank in search engines.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing new or special that creators need to do for this update as long as they\u2019ve been making satisfying content meant for people. For those that might not be ranking as well, we strongly encourage reading our\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/docs\/fundamentals\/creating-helpful-content\">creating helpful, reliable, people-first content<\/a>\u00a0help page,\u201d Google said previously.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more details on Google core updates, you can read\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/updates\/core-updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google\u2019s documentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Previous core updates.\u00a0<\/strong>Here\u2019s a timeline and our coverage of recent core updates:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The March 2025 core update was on Mar. 13 and ended on Mar. 27.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0December 2024 core update\u00a0was on Dec. 12 and ended on\u00a0Dec. 18.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0August 2024 core update\u00a0was on Aug. 15 and ended on\u00a0Sept. 3.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0March 2024 core update\u00a0was on March 5 and ended on\u00a0April 19.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0November 2023 core update\u00a0was on Nov. 2 and ended on\u00a0Nov. 28.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0October 2023 core update\u00a0was on Oct. 5 and ended on\u00a0Oct. 19<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0August 2023 core update\u00a0was on Aug. 22 and ended\u00a0Sept. 7.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0March 2023 core update\u00a0was on March 15 and\u00a0ended March 28.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why we care.\u00a0<\/strong>Now that this March 2025 core update is done, you can start to dig in to see how you are your clients were impacted. You can review Google\u2019s guidance and continue to improve your site, which hopefully will lead to better Google ranking in the future.
