\n\tHelen Mirren has always been a fan of the actors who played 007, but not necessarily the James Bond franchise itself.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oscar winner, who stars as former 007\u00a0Pierce Brosnan\u2019s wife in their new series<\/a> MobLand<\/em>, was recently asked by The Standard<\/a><\/em> for her thoughts on Amazon MGM Studios taking over creative control of the film franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have to say I was never a great ward (of Bond),\u201d Mirren admitted. \u201cI\u2019m a huge fan of Pierce Brosnan, I mean massive fan. I mean, oh my god. Obviously, he\u2019s gorgeous and everything, and I think he\u2019s fabulous in\u00a0MobLand<\/em>, but he also happ<\/a>ens to be one of the nicest people you\u2019ll ever have the pleasure to work with. And indeed\u00a0Daniel Craig, who I\u2019ve met and know a little bit. Again, a very lovely gracious person\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, the Hitchcock<\/em> actress said the \u201cwhole series of James Bond\u201d was actually \u201cnot my thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt really wasn\u2019t,\u201d she added. \u201cI never liked James Bond. I never liked the way women were in James Bond. The whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile little has been revealed about what the future of the franchise will look like under Amazon MGM, Mirren noted that though she opposes a female Bond, she would like to see films based on women in espionage throughout history.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWomen have always been a major and incredibly important part of the Secret Service, they always have been,\u201d the 1923<\/em> actress explained. \u201cAnd very brave. If you hear about what women did in the French Resistance, they\u2019re amazingly, unbelievably courageous. So I would tell real stories about extraordinary women who\u2019ve worked in that world\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn February, it was announced that Amazon\u00a0MGM Studios would form a new joint venture to house the James Bond intellectual property rights and gain creative control, while Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli would continue as co-owners of the property.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
