\n\tLate New Hollywood legend Robert Altman (Gosford Park<\/em>, M*A*S*H<\/em>), late master of violence Sam Peckinpah, and Dogme 95, the Danish avant-garde movement led by directors Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round<\/em>), will get the spotlight treatment at the 15th edition of the Beijing International Film Festival <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTo commemorate the 130th anniversary of world cinema,\u201d the Beijing fest has curated a retrospective program \u201cto document the history of film and envision its future,\u201d organizers said. \u201cWith a curated selection of cinematic classics, the festival blends nostalgia with new perspectives, drawing inspiration from the past to ignite future creativity.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong the offerings will be \u201cEndless Waves: 30 Years of the Dogme 95.\u201d The Dogme 95 Manifesto expressed a commitment to create movies<\/a> focused on storytelling, acting, and theme<\/a> rather than the elaborate use of special effects or technological tricks. One of its key goals was to empower directors as artists. The fest didn\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely detail which Dogme 95 movies it will screen.<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, to mark the 100th birthday of \u201cfilm master\u201d Altman, \u201cthe largest retrospective of his works ever held in China,\u201d according to the festival. Among the Altman movies set to screen at Beijing are the likes of M*A*S*H<\/em>, The Long Goodbye<\/em>, McCabe & Mrs. Miller<\/em>, Nashville<\/em>, A Wedding<\/em>, and California Split<\/em>. Ron Mann\u2019s documentary Altman<\/em> will also be shown.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOn the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sam Peckinpah, who is unique in the film industry for his violent aesthetics, the 15th Beijing International Film Festival will present Peckinpah\u2019s western masterpiece The Wild Bunch<\/em>\u201d as part of its Tribute and Commemoration section, the Beijing fest added. \u201cThe film has influenced countless filmmakers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSwitzerland serves as this year\u2019s country of honor at the Beijing festival. The 15th edition of the Beijing festival takes place in the Chinese capital April 18-26.<\/p>\n

\n\tChinese actor-director\u00a0Jiang Wen\u00a0(Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/em>,\u00a0Let the Bullets Fly<\/em>) will serve as the head of the main competition jury at the festival, which will hand out its Tiantan Award.\u00a0The other jurors are Chinese American director and actor\u00a0Joan Chen\u00a0(The Last Emperor<\/em>),\u00a0British director David Yates\u00a0(Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them<\/em>), Chinese actor Ni Ni, Finnish director Teemu Nikki, Swiss director and actor\u00a0Vincent Perez, and art director Tim Yip from Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
