\n\tBill Murray is opening up about the aftermath of the Being Mortal<\/em> set complaints<\/a> that forced the film into cancellation and left him \u201cbarbecued.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2022, production on the Aziz Ansari-helmed film was suspended after a crew member filed a complaint against Murray. Three years later, the actor-comedia<\/a>n explained that the alleged incident involved a masked kiss that he \u201cthought was funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was wearing a mask, and I gave her a kiss, and she was wearing a mask,\u201d he said in a Saturday profile with the New York Times<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t like I touched<\/em> her, but it was just, I gave her a kiss through a mask. And she wasn\u2019t a stranger.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Ghosterbusters<\/em> star made a point to note that the altercation listed in the complaint occurred with \u201csomeone that I worked with, that I had had lunch with on various days of the week.\u201d While he isn\u2019t sure \u201cwhat prompted me to do it,\u201d he added that it happ<\/a>ened when \u201cwe were all stranded in this one room listening to this crazy scene.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tMoreover, Murray defended his actions, citing the event as \u201csomething that I had done to someone else before.\u201d He added, \u201cI thought it was funny, and every time it happened, it was<\/em> funny.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was a great disappointment, because I thought I knew someone, and I did not,\u201d he said. \u201cI certainly thought it was light. I thought it was funny. To me it\u2019s still funny, the idea that you could give someone a kiss with a mask on. It\u2019s still stupid. It\u2019s all it was.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBeing Mortal<\/em> was backed by Searchlight Films, a production company owned by Disney. Murray cited the film\u2019s backing from the Big Mouse and their \u201cpre-existing conditions\u201d as the reason why Being Mortal<\/em> halted production and ultimately went unfinished.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt still bothers me because that movie was stopped by the human rights or \u2018H&R\u2019 of the Disney corporation,\u201d he said. \u201cIt turned out there were pre-existing conditions and all this kind of stuff. I\u2019m like, what? How was anyone supposed to know anything like that? There was no conversation, there was nothing. There was no peacemaking, nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOnce production was suspended, Murray said they \u201cwent to this lunatic arbitration,\u201d while recommending that \u201cif anyone ever suggests you go to arbitration: Don\u2019t do it. Never ever do it. Because you think it\u2019s justice, and it isn\u2019t.\u201d Though it\u2019s been roughly three years since the controversy occurred, Murry said he doesn\u2019t \u201cgo too many days or weeks without thinking of what happened in Being Mortal<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
