\n\tPlatform game<\/a> Astro Bot<\/em> led the winners of the 2025 BAFTA Games Awards, which were handed out in London on Tuesday evening, earning five honors, including for best game of the year. The psychological horror game Still Wakes the Deep<\/em> received three gaming BAFTAs, including two performance honors.<\/p>\n

\n\tAction-adventure Senua\u2019s Saga: Hellblade II<\/em> had led the pack with 11 nominations, ahead of Astro Bot<\/em> and Still Wakes the Deep<\/em> with six each, with the likes of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6<\/em>, Lego Horizon Adventures<\/em>, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth<\/em> also earning nods. All contenders for the honors were released between Nov. 25, 2023, and Nov. 15, 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring Tuesday evening\u2019s ceremony in London, Bridgerton<\/em> star Adjoa Andoh took to the stage to hand the BAFTA for a performer in a leading role in a game to Alec Newman for his role as Cameron McLeary in Still Wakes the Deep<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tJapanese composer Yoko Shimomura received the\u00a0BAFTA Fellowship\u00a0during the\u00a0BAFTA Games Awards\u00a0ceremony for her contribution to the games industry. She has composed \u201ccountless era-defining video game soundtracks enjoyed by millions of players worldwide, including the\u00a0Kingdom Hearts<\/em>\u00a0series<\/a>,\u00a0Final Fantasy XV<\/em>,\u00a0Mario & Luigi<\/em>,\u201d and more,\u00a0the British Academy said.<\/p>\n

\n\tPerforming arts and entertainment trade union Equity used the BAFTA Games Awards to call on gaming industry bosses to improve pay and conditions for performers. \u201cEquity is here to make sure the poor practice frequently reported by Equity members does not continue to be ignored by industry leaders,\u201d said John Barclay, Equity\u2019s assistant general<\/a> secretary for recorded media<\/a>. \u201cThe video games industry is worth over \u00a37 billion ($8.9 billion) in the U.K. alone, and in attendance tonight are bosses from some of the richest companies in the world. Yet these companies continue to ignore Equity\u2019s calls to work with us to introduce union-negotiated agreements in the U.K. that would improve pay, terms and conditions for our members \u2013 something that is normal practice in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLast year,\u00a0Baldur\u2019s Gate 3<\/em>\u00a0led the winners\u00a0at the\u00a0with five BAFTA honors, while\u00a0Super Mario Bros.\u00a0Wonder<\/em>,\u00a0Viewfinder<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Alan Wake 2<\/em>\u00a0won two awards each.<\/p>\n

\n\tBAFTA and Digital Cinema Media recently launched a national cinema advertising campaign that promotes and celebrates the art of storytelling in video games. Susan Wokoma stars alongside Baldur\u2019s Gate 3<\/em> duo Samantha B\u00e9art and Neil Newbon, Doug Cockle (Witcher 3<\/em>) and more in the trailer directed by Jennifer Sheridan.<\/p>\n
