Mews \u2014 <\/b><strong>\u20ac<\/strong><b>68mn ($75mn)\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<p class=\"ica-text__title\">Limited offer: Bag 2 tickets for the price of 1!<\/p>\n<p>Register for TNW Conference by 15 April and get another ticket totally free!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mews, based at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TNW City<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Amsterdam, has built a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cloud-based<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> system that helps hotels and other hospitality businesses streamline tasks like booking rooms, checking guests in and out, and processing payments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This round follows a raise of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$100mn<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in credit financing in September and a $110mn equity round in March 2024 \u2014 when the scaleup became a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unicorn<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Alesta_Therapeutics_%E2%80%94_E65mn\"><\/span><b>2. Alesta Therapeutics<\/b><strong> \u2014 \u20ac65mn<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alesta Therapeutics, based in Leiden, Netherlands, is a bio<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> company focused on developing novel oral small-molecule therapies for rare diseases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Leyden_Labs_%E2%80%94_E63mn_70mn\"><\/span><b>3. Leyden Labs \u2014<\/b> <strong>\u20ac63<\/strong><b>mn ($70mn)<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leyden Labs is another biotech startup from Leiden \u2014 home to one of Europe\u2019s leading life <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> hubs. The company is developing intranasal medicines to protect against respiratory viruses.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Vivici_%E2%80%94_E325mn\"><\/span><b>4. Vivici \u2014 \u20ac32.5mn<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vivici is a Dutch foodtech startup using precision fermentation to produce animal-free dairy proteins. Its proteins are designed to replace traditional dairy ingredients like whey and casein.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_QuantWare_%E2%80%94_E20mn\"><\/span><b>5. QuantWare \u2014 \u20ac20mn<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quantware designs and manufactures superconducting quantum processors. The startup claims to have created a 3D chip architecture that offers the fastest route to a 1-million qubit quantum computer \u2014 and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">plans to sell it<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Big Tech companies. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Thorizon_%E2%80%93_E16mn\"><\/span><b>6. Thorizon \u2013 \u20ac16mn<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Deep tech startup Thorizon is developing modular molten salt reactors (MSRs) that utilise long-lived nuclear waste as fuel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Varmx_%E2%80%94_E15mn\"><\/span><b>7. Varmx \u2014 \u20ac15mn<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Varmx is a biotech startup developing a treatment to reverse bleeding in patients taking blood thinners.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_Workwize_%E2%80%94_E12mn_13mn\"><\/span><b>8. Workwize \u2014 \u20ac12mn ($13mn)<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Workwize provides cloud-based software for managing IT hardware in remote and hybrid workplaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"9_Sirius_Medical_%E2%80%94_E10mn\"><\/span><b>9. Sirius Medical \u2014 \u20ac10mn<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another biotech startup, Sirius Medical has developed a tumour localisation technology that helps surgeons to precisely locate and remove breast tumours.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"10_Stacks_%E2%80%94_E9mn_10mn\"><\/span><b>10. Stacks \u2014 <\/b><b>\u20ac9mn (<\/b><b>$10mn)\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u200bAmsterdam-based Stacks provides an AI-driven platform that streamlines financial closing processes for businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite several eye-catching deals, a significant drop in growth-stage funding and fewer deals overall are raising concerns about the long-term health of the\u00a0 Dutch tech ecosystem.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fewer_deals_fewer_growth_rounds_for_Dutch_tech\"><\/span><b>Fewer deals, fewer growth rounds for Dutch tech<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In total, just 79 deals were recorded in Q1 2025 \u2014 an 11% drop compared to the same period last year. It marked the fifth consecutive quarter in which deal count has fallen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most striking is the sharp decline in later-stage funding. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Series<\/a> B+ rounds halved from 14 in Q1 2024 to just seven this year. In total, late-stage startups raised \u20ac287mn \u2014 down an eye-watering \u20ac609mn from the previous year.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Equally telling, for the second quarter in a row, there were no Dutch mega-deals above \u20ac100mn \u2014 a stark contrast to previous years when such rounds were relatively common, the report found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Early-stage startups, on the other hand, were a rare bright spot in an otherwise poor outlook. Seed deals (typically \u20ac1mn-\u20ac4mn) accounted for nearly half of all investments in Q1 2025, with total funding in this category growing over 15% year-on-year to \u20ac58.4mn.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s a healthy sign for future innovation, but without sufficient late-stage capital, there\u2019s a risk that promising Dutch startups will be forced to look abroad for growth funding.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whats_next\"><\/span><b>What\u2019s next?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The outlook for the rest of 2025 is mixed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the one hand, the resilience of seed investment and a growing interest in deep tech and hardware \u2014 areas where Dutch startups like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">QuantWare<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Thorizon excel \u2014 provide reasons for optimism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can be proud of the Dutch entrepreneurs who, together with investors, realise world-class deep tech innovations,\u201d said Myrthe Hooijman, director of ecosystem change and governmental affairs at Techleap.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, several issues are causing concern.
