\n\tEric Dane\u00a0has\u00a0revealed he\u2019s been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis\u00a0(ALS).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor, 52, told People<\/em> magazine<\/a> on Thursday, \u201cI have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tALS, also known as Lou Gehrig\u2019s disease, is a \u201cnervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.\u00a0ALS\u00a0causes loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time,\u201d according to the Mayo Clinic<\/a>. There is no cure for the disease.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Dane didn\u2019t share many details surrounding his diagnosis, the actor \u2014 who plays Cal Jacobs, the Jacobs family patriarch on\u00a0Euphoria<\/em> \u2014 also told People<\/em> he\u2019s returning to set next week to continue filming season three of the hit HBO show.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of\u00a0Euphoria<\/em>\u00a0next week,\u201d he said. \u201cI kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to Euphoria<\/em>, Dan is also known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan, the charismatic plastic surgeon, on the long-running medical drama Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> for\u00a0six seasons, from 2006 to 2012. He\u2019s also starred in dozens of other projects, including Charmed<\/em>, The Last Ship<\/em> and Kabul<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tDane shares two teenage children with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Hollywood Reporter<\/em> has reached out to Dane\u2019s rep for additional comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tOther notables who have been diagnosed with ALS include Stephen Hawking, Lou Gehrig, Roberta Flack, Dennis Day, Steve Gleason and Aaron Lazar.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
