A whopping 83% of the survey\u2019s respondents think that moment will come within 10 years or less.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One-third of them are even more optimistic, predicting that quantum utility could be achieved within the next one-to-five years. That\u2019s more in line with the roadmaps of quantum companies like Finnish startup IQM, which is targeting quantum utility as early as next year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of the world\u2019s biggest tech leaders have also cast their predictions on this hot topic in recent months. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In February, Google\u2019s CEO Sundar Pichai said he believes \u201cpractically useful\u201d quantum computers are five-to-10 years away. It also points to a broader confusion over quantum jargon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quantum utility will mean that quantum computers can <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">solve meaningful real-world problems. However, even within the industry, the term is often used interchangeably with quantum \u201cadvantage\u201d or \u201csupremacy,\u201d which is widely considered the point at which quantum computers outperform classical ones.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Economist Impact \u2014 a research-driven consultancy and content arm of Britain\u2019s Economist Group \u2014 illustrates how muddled the terms have become in its own press release: \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quantum utility [is] when quantum computers will overcome hardware and error correction challenges to perform better than classical computers.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That makes the next finding from the survey quite fitting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Quantum_utility_challenges\"><\/span>Quantum utility challenges<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over half of the respondents <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">believe misconceptions about quantum computing are actively hindering advancement. The findings highlight a gap between technological progress and business preparedness, emphasising the need for improved education about what quantum computing is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Public misunderstanding of quantum computing is far from the biggest headache for quantum professionals, however. Overcoming engineering challenges and acquiring enough talent to grow are right at the top of the list of concerns. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over 80% of respondents cited overcoming technical challenges \u2014 particularly <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">error correction<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 as a key hurdle to reaching quantum utility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three-quarters identified a shortage of talent and expertise as a critical issue. Quantum experts are in<\/span> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sifted.eu\/articles\/quantum-talent-shortage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">short supply<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> exacerbated by the rapid growth of the quantum sector, where startups and tech giants alike are competing for a small pool of qualified professionals.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">T<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing into the subatomic world of quantum mechanics to perform useful calculations was never going to come easy, though. It is one of the toughest challenges in modern <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> \u2014 but if cracked, the payoff could be huge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quantum computers have the potential to solve problems that are far beyond the reach of today\u2019s most powerful supercomputers. They could simulate complex molecules for drug discovery, design new materials from the atomic level up, and revolutionise logistics and finance by cracking massive optimisation problems.
