lot about AI agents lately \u2013 whether in your workplace conversations or scrolling through your <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> feeds (hopefully both).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While there\u2019s no shortage of articles discussing their <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> benefits, there\u2019s surprisingly little coverage on what they mean specifically for SEO \u2013 where their impact is not just significant, but amplified.<\/p>\n<p>Before we dive into the two key reasons AI agents are so important for SEOs to understand (and yes, you\u2019re probably already using them \u2013 even if you don\u2019t realize it), let\u2019s first get clear on what AI agents actually are.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-ai-agents\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_are_AI_agents\"><\/span>What are AI agents?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At their core, AI agents are autonomous systems equipped with access to external tools, data, functions, and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They operate with a clear understanding of an end goal and are provided with the resources needed to achieve it.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, they\u2019re also given instructions on how to use those tools. The worker ants \u2013 each equipped with their own specialized tools \u2013 are the individual agents tasked with specific functions.<\/p>\n<p>Consider the parallels:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Queen = Agent operator<\/strong>: Directs and adjusts the overall strategy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Worker ants = Sub-agents<\/strong>: Each has a specialized tool or function, whether it\u2019s gathering data, analyzing content, or communicating findings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Colony efficiency = System optimization<\/strong>: As ants work together, the system optimizes resources and information flow, mirroring how AI agents coordinate to achieve complex tasks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The queen communicates the goal to each \u201ctool,\u201d which each ant then tries to accomplish.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They return with their requested resource, communicate and assess their status, share information to accomplish their macro goal faster and report back.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An overall status is reported to the queen, who communicates adjusted commands to her tools.<\/p>\n<p>This is not all that different from an AI agent, other than being generally more sophisticated (though not as impressive to us, as <strong>it only sustains a species<\/strong> and doesn\u2019t automatically make a stock trade 56 nanoseconds faster after catching a new trend and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lying the sentiment as positive).<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll poorly parallel this to AI agents below.<\/p>\n<p>But before I do that, let me answer why one of my assertions above is true.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-the-impact-of-ai-agents-in-seo-is-multiplied-many-times-over-most-other-professions\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_the_impact_of_AI_agents_in_SEO_is_multiplied_many_times_over_most_other_professions\"><\/span>Why the impact of AI agents in SEO is multiplied many times over most other professions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I can\u2019t think of an industry that won\u2019t be touched by agents, at least indirectly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lawyers will use agents to look up and summarize judgments and analyze loopholes used for their clients.<\/li>\n<li>Software engineers will use them to assist in developing code and systems, referencing their internal docs, repos, and external knowledge.<\/li>\n<li>Bakers will receive their ingredients through shippers coordinated using agents.<\/li>\n<li>SEOs will use them as tools to do their jobs faster 1408px\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>On top of that, we also need to learn and adapt to marketing into agentic systems.<\/p>\n<p>Generative engine optimization (GEO) entered the scene not that long ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But what it is evolving into is something different \u2014 something far more powerful.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Something that takes us past optimizing for an algorithm, even one driven by an LLM like AI Overviews or ChatGPT, and into optimizing for agents, their functions, and their tools.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re seeing this evolution in its toddler years right now, and if you\u2019re on the ground floor, that\u2019s a great place to be.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While there are exceptions, for the most part, generative engines are performing a lot like search engines in their presentation of solutions.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The user enters a query.<\/li>\n<li>The user receives a reply.<\/li>\n<li>That reply might have a few links in it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sure, the system might check on the web for additional references outside of its current knowledge base, but nothing revolutionary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Again, it functions a lot like traditional search with a better user experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I expect the next steps in this evolution will be gradual, as tools like Google and ChatGPT add new capabilities \u2013 such as the recently announced feature where an AI-driven system can call a store to gather additional information for you.<\/p>\n<p>However, new pieces will gradually fall into place until we reach a point where providing your agent with insights into your goals or needs will trigger actions in ways we likely can\u2019t fully understand yet.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a simple example.<\/p>\n<p>You give the Google agent (for example) your goal, want, or need.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you need new shoes for a wedding. The agent can then:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check your calendar for the wedding date.<\/li>\n<li>Check the weather in that city on that date, or likely weather based on the time of year if specifics are unavailable.<\/li>\n<li>Ask what you\u2019ll be wearing.<\/li>\n<li>Knowing your size, general style, and preferred brands and stores \u2013 source options that will arrive in time for the wedding.<\/li>\n<li>Source and store a local backup, in case something goes wrong with the delivery or fit, to have that information ready in case it detects a problem.<\/li>\n<li>Ask if you would like to see the options:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If yes, send them to a display of your choosing.<\/li>\n<li>If not, move on to the next step.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Once the shoe is selected, complete the order.<\/li>\n<li>Check what other common items might be needed for weddings, based on your status at it (guest, best person, bride or groom, etc.), and optionally send an email list of these to you if it doesn\u2019t have evidence these are completed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Imagining this world, I have a couple of questions for you:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How do you attribute that to Google?<\/li>\n<li>Was it their crawler that surfaced the information to them? What kind of optimization does that take with LLMs?<\/li>\n<li>Was it a product feed through Google Merchant Center?<\/li>\n<li>Did they use an operator to navigate your site to get to it? Biases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What started as a simple replacement for a script I had previously written for the same task has since evolved.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll also highlight a few upcoming expansions to better illustrate the potential of AI agents.<\/p>\n<p>This agentic system begins by asking the user for five things:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The primary phrase they are hoping to rank for with an article.<\/li>\n<li>Any secondary terms.<\/li>\n<li>The type of article they were writing.<\/li>\n<li>The title (if they have one in mind).<\/li>\n<li>The author.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It uses this information to inform the other agents within the system what to do and what data to access.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve created several agents and data sources for the agent to access.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The main ones (including a few still being finished after some testing) are:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-search-agent\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_search_agent\"><\/span>A search agent<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This agent has access to Google search and removes social platforms, which tend to block our web scrapers.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-an-analysis-agent\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"An_analysis_agent\"><\/span>An analysis agent<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This agent does a few things:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Extracts the entities from the pages using Google\u2019s Natural Language API.<\/li>\n<li>Summarizes content.<\/li>\n<li>Extracts questions from the content.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019ll likely separate these into their own agents as I expand the capabilities, but combining them works well in the current iteration.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-data-store-of-examples\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_data_store_of_examples\"><\/span>A data store of examples<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For each author, I created a folder with 10 markdown files that include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The inputs they provided (primary phrase, secondary terms, title, etc.).<\/li>\n<li>The outlines generated by the system.<\/li>\n<li>The final outlines I handed off after manual editing.<\/li>\n<li>The first paragraphs from the published articles, based on my criteria for how section intros should read.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This collection trains the agentic system to understand each author\u2019s preferred structure and tone. It also helps suggest first paragraphs that align with their writing style. <\/p>\n<p>I log all of this \u2013 inputs, extracted entities, questions, and outlines \u2013 to W&amp;B Weave to monitor performance and guide improvements.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-an-outline-agent\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"An_outline_agent\"><\/span>An outline agent<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This agent takes in the information from the user, the search results, entities, questions, and summaries and generates an article outline.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-coming-soon\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Coming_soon\"><\/span>Coming soon<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Some agents I\u2019m adding in presently are:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A keyword agent<\/strong> that will have access to the Google Ads API to get additional keyword ideas and search volumes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A social listening agent<\/strong> that will monitor social channels for trending topics and auto-generate and outline when one crosses a threshold of likely importance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A Slack\/email agent<\/strong>: When an article outline is generated automatically, the agentic system will inform me \u2013 including a list of notable people talking about the topic and a summary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A competitor agent<\/strong> that will check to see if known competitors are ranking for the content and send them to me with the outline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I\u2019m sure there\u2019s more to come.
