Say it ain\u2019t so. And yet, here we are with a fresh merger between autonomous vehicle <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> startup <strong>Kodiak Robotics<\/strong> and special purpose acquisition company Ares Acquisition Corporation II.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The transaction values Kodiak, which has raised around $243 million to date, at about $2.5 billion pre-money. New and existing Kodiak institutional investors, like Soros Fund Management, ARK Investments, and Ares, have funded or committed over $110 million in financing to support the transaction, as well as about $551 million of cash held in trust.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I spoke to Kodiak founder and CEO <strong>Don Burnette<\/strong> and asked the obvious question: A SPAC? Now? Why?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKodiak, now that we have launched driverless, we have our vehicles on the road, we have driverless revenue coming in,\u201d Burnette told me. \u201cWe think now is the time for growth. We want to take advantage of the tailwinds we\u2019re seeing in the markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tailwinds? I asked him to explain, and Burnette meant tailwinds in the autonomy sector as opposed to the broader economic markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cObviously, we\u2019re seeing short-term volatility \u2014 that\u2019s an understatement,\u201d he said. \u201cBut we\u2019re really thinking about this as a long-term thesis of transforming the transportation markets, using AI, using technology, and through automation. It\u2019s something I\u2019ve always believed in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Other deals that got my attention \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Conifer<\/strong>, a startup developing electric hub motors that are free of rare earth elements, raised a $20 million seed round from investors, including True Ventures, MaC Ventures, MFV Partners, and others. True Ventures\u2019 Rohit Sharma has joined Conifer\u2019s board.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kavak<\/strong>, a Mexico-based online used car dealer, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-04-15\/mexico-car-dealer-kavak-s-valuation-slashed-by-6-5-billion-as-market-sours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">raised $127 million<\/a> in an equity round, cutting its valuation to $2.2 billion from $6.5 billion. The round was co-led by SoftBank Group Corp and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Atlantic. The company also secured $400 million in new debt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lyft<\/strong> agreed to acquire FreeNow, a German multi-mobility app with ride-hail at its core, from BMW and Mercedes-Benz Mobility for about $197 million in cash. The acquisition opens up the European market to Lyft for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nyobolt<\/strong>, a British EV charging startup, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nyobolt.com\/resources\/news\/nyobolt-raises-30-million-as-demand-for-high-power-energy-solutions-surge-with-ai-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">raised $30 million<\/a> in funding, led by IQ Capital and Latitude. But Tesla and others will be affected by rules around over-the-air software updates for ADAS, which requires testing and government approval.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-autonomous-vehicles\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Autonomous_vehicles\"><\/span>Autonomous vehicles<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nuro <\/strong>will begin mapping and collecting data <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@nuroteam\/going-global-nuro-is-heading-to-japan-d475d386e9de\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">in Japan<\/a> using autonomous vehicles (retrofitted Prius cars) from its U.S. fleet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Waymo<\/strong> and <strong>Uber<\/strong> are preparing to launch their joint robotaxi service in Atlanta this summer. Uber opened up an \u201cinterest list\u201d this week to customers in Atlanta. The two companies launched the \u201cWaymo on Uber\u201d service in Austin in March. Data from market analytics firm YipitData shows Waymo robotaxis made up <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-04-11\/waymo-robotaxis-make-up-20-of-uber-rides-in-austin-data-shows?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">about 20% of rides <\/a>offered by Uber in Austin in the last week of March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Zoox<\/strong> has <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/corporate.stingray.com\/products-and-services\/stingray-zoox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">partnered with Stingray Music<\/a>, which will offer a curated selection of 16 stations via the touchscreen inside the robotaxis. Yet another sign Zoox is getting ready to launch commercially.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-electric-vehicles-charging-amp-batteries\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Electric_vehicles_charging_batteries\"><\/span>Electric vehicles, charging, &amp; batteries<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lime<\/strong> will send batteries used in its scooters and e-bikes to Redwood Materials, which will extract and recycle critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and copper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kia<\/strong> debuted its 2026 EV4 sedan at the New York International Auto Show. This is the company\u2019s first global electric sedan and one designed for customers looking for an affordable EV. Read the full review and find out why she wrote that the Gravity is\u00a0 \u201cover-engineering at its best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Rivian\u2019s<\/strong> first non-Amazon van customer is HelloFresh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Subaru<\/strong> unveiled its second EV, a wagon-like SUV called the Trailseeker that, like its predecessor the Solterra, includes a bit of Toyota handiwork.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-future-of-flight\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Future_of_flight\"><\/span>Future of flight<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Archer Aviation<\/strong> unveiled its proposed air taxi network for New York City in partnership with United Airlines, which would allow passengers to tack on an Archer ride to their traditional airline tickets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ride-hailing\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ride-hailing\"><\/span>Ride-hailing\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">India\u2019s market regulator launched an investigation into <strong>Gensol Engineering<\/strong> after finding alleged misuse of electric vehicle loans. <strong>BluSmart<\/strong>, a ride-hailing startup connected to Gensol that was once seen as an emerging Uber rival in the South Asian market, has also been swept up into the investigation. And now it seems BluSmart has suspended services in some Indian cities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-security\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Security\"><\/span>Security<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hertz<\/strong> customers have been notified of a data breach that included their personal information and driver\u2019s licenses.
