\n Disturbing video shows an NPR reporter being flung around and pinned to the ground by several officers in California \u2014 including one who stands on her phone as she attempted to record them \u2014 while she covered protests over the shooting of two Los Angeles deputies.<\/p>\n

KPCC\u2019s Josie Huang, who also covers news<\/a> for LAist, cried out in pain as she was grabbed shortly after filming protesters shouting \u201cwe hope they die!\u201d outside the hospital where the two deputies were still fighting for their lives after Saturday\u2019s ambush.<\/p>\n

Huang\u2019s own footage caught her filming one of the protesters being arrested in the street \u2014 then crying \u201cow!\u201d as she was grabbed almost immedia<\/a>tely after a first request to \u201cback up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several officers were seen in other footage grabbing her, with one spinning her around almost into a car before forcing her to the ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet on the f\u2014ing ground,\u201d one officer growled at her as she immediately said she was a reporter, according to video she recorded throughout.<\/p>\n

\u201cHelp! I\u2019m with KPCC!\u201d she said while continually crying out in pain \u2014 and repeating her NPR employer\u2019s name five more times.<\/p>\n

Her phone was knocked out of her hand while still recording, she said \u2014 and an officer was filmed seemingly deliberately stepping on it and crunching it under his shoe before another kicked it.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys are hurting me,\u201d she repeatedly sobbed.<\/p>\n

Huang said she spent five hours in custody and was charged with obstructing a peace officer.<\/p>\n

The sheriffs\u2019 department confirmed that \u201can active investigation is underway\u201d and it was aware of the footage, which seemed to contradict the department\u2019s own statement about the arrest hours earlier.<\/p>\n

LA County Sheriffs claimed on Twitter that Huang \u201cran towards the deputies\u201d \u2014 although her own footage suggests she was walking slowly and was mostly ignored up until her arrest.<\/p>\n

The department also said she \u201cignored repeated commands to stay back,\u201d although she app<\/a>eared to have been grabbed within seconds of the first request to \u201cback up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was nowhere to back up,\u201d she wrote alongside the clip, recalling getting \u201cshoved around\u201d within seconds.<\/p>\n

The Sheriffs\u2019 department also claimed she \u201cdid not identify herself as press,\u201d but she could be heard saying \u201cI\u2019m a reporter\u201d as soon as she was grabbed, and repeatedly naming the local NPR station she works for. The footage also appears to show an ID badge hanging around her neck.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are challenging and stressful times for everyone, but Josie Huang was arrested while doing her job. The charges should be dropped,\u201d KPCC said in a statement on LAist.<\/p>\n
