\n\tJohn Lithgow is looking forward to playing Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry\u2019s headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tLithgow recently told BBC\u2019s The One Show <\/a><\/em>that he\u2019s \u201cvery excited\u201d yet \u201cvery intimidated\u201d to be the next actor to take on a role which has been played before in the Harry Potter<\/em> films by Richard Harris (Sorcerer\u2019s Stone,<\/em> Chamber of Secrets<\/em>) Michael Gambon (Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows: Part 1<\/em> and Deathly Hallows: Part 2<\/em>) and by Jude Law in the Fantastic Beasts <\/em>movies (Crimes of Grindelwald, Secrets of Dumbledore<\/em>).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI will be following the great Michael Gambon,\u201d Lithgow said. \u201cI\u2019m not an Englishman, although I\u2019ve played one on TV. I remind everyone that I did play Winston Churchill on The Crown<\/em> and did just fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Conclave<\/em> actor continued to explain how there\u2019s been criticism of his casting because he is an American and the previous actors are from the U.K.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s an enormous thrill. But I know there were plenty of people app<\/a>alled that an American should be hired to play the ultimate English wizard. But, I will do my best,\u201d Lithgow said. <\/p>\n

\n\tWhile it\u2019s long been rumored that Lithgow was going to be cast, last month, he said, \u201cThe overall concept of this entire reboot of\u00a0Harry Potter<\/em>\u00a0is an entire season is devoted to a single novel. So, he was preparing by reading \u201chalfway through the second\u201d\u00a0novel at the time. <\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this week, HBO unveiled the official casting with Nick Frost as Hogwarts game<\/a>keeper Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Potions Professor Severus Snape, Luke Thallon as Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Quirinus Quirrel and Paul Whitehouse as caretaker Argus Filch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
