\n\tBowen Yang doesn\u2019t plan to be at Saturday Night Live<\/em> forever.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor-comedia<\/a>n recently opened up about his future during an interview with People<\/a><\/em>, noting that the recent\u00a050th anniversary special \u2014 which saw several SNL<\/em> alums return <\/a>\u2014\u00a0got him thinking about what life after the sketch comedy show could look like.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSNL<\/em>, it\u2019s just this moving, living, breathing thing,\u201d he said. \u201cEspecially after the 50th, I\u2019m seeing what life after the show is like and how beautiful it is, and how so many people, no matter how long they were at the show, are just with their families and loving their lives and not letting the years take away any of that experience for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tYang has been a castmember on the long-running sketch comedy program since 2019, after initially joining the writing team the year prior. Some of his most memorable sketches include \u201cWeekend Update: The Iceberg on the Sinking of the Titanic,\u201d \u201cBowen\u2019s Straight,\u201d and \u201cWeekend Update: U.S. Shoots Down Chinese Spy Balloon,\u201d among others.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe explained that since SNL<\/em> is \u201cthis growing, living thing \u2026 new people come in and you do have to sort of make way for them to grow and to keep elevating themselves. And that inevitably requires me to sort of hang it up at some point \u2014 but I don\u2019t know what the vision is yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnother reason the Wicked<\/em> star said he will eventually want to step away from the NBC show is due to the demanding production schedule, which impacts his personal life.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe new season of\u00a0SNL,<\/em>\u00a0I\u2019m just like, \u2018Oh, right. My time isn\u2019t my own.\u2019 And I tell my friends, \u2018I\u2019m not going to really see you guys until June,’\u201d Yang said. \u201cAnd people that I\u2019ve gone a couple solid dates with I\u2019m like, \u2018Hey, it\u2019s not for lack of interest. My time is really slipping away from me and I\u2019m so sorry and it\u2019s not a you thing, it\u2019s a me thing.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, he\u2019s still enjoying his time on SNL<\/em>, noting that the collaborative nature of the show has pushed him out of his comfort zone, especially with some of the wild sketches over the years.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think one of the best parts about working at\u00a0SNL<\/em>\u00a0is that whenever you\u2019re not working on your own, because you are helping someone else, a cast member, execute on their vision, and so they\u2019re coming up to you being like, \u2018You need to dress up as a drone and you need to dress up as a Chinese spy balloon and do blah, blah, blah.\u2019 And you\u2019re like, \u2018Okay, sure.\u2019 \u2018You need to do up with Lady Gaga,’\u201d Yang said. \u201cAnd you can\u2019t think anything of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou get shot out of a cannon in so many of these situations that it kind of breaks down all of your hesitancies around doing anything that has only served me,\u201d The Wedding Banquet<\/em> actor continued. \u201cI mean, every now and then, a lot of times it\u2019ll be like egg on your face, you\u2019ll make an ass out of yourself, but I never, ever weigh that against the wonderful things that I\u2019ve gotten to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
