Learn how this could impact YMYL industries.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"bialty-container\">\n<p>\u201cThis call is being recorded for Google algorithm optimization purposes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On April 22, Google Ads <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.seroundtable.com\/google-local-service-ads-new-legal-terms-39286.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">notified<\/a> Local Services Ads (LSA) advertisers of a significant update to its Terms of Service, asserting the right to use, modify, and analyze all content within an advertiser\u2019s LSA profile, including phone calls from prospective customers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These rights extend not only across Google\u2019s platforms, products, and services, but also to its affiliates.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, Google has already been digitally eavesdropping on LSA phone calls.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In July 2024, they replaced the previously manual (and relatively accurate) lead dispute process with an automated, AI-driven system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anecdotally, this benefited advertisers who didn\u2019t closely monitor lead quality \u2013 but those with efficient review processes ended up paying more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The scope of this AI analysis now extends far beyond lead quality, capturing service details, pricing, special offers, and discounts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In effect, Google is positioned to create a comprehensive pricing map of LSA advertisers using inbound call data.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, it\u2019s still unclear whether agency MCCs can override an individual advertiser\u2019s consent \u2013 or if clients are even being informed when their data rights are handed over.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-join-us-or-else\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Join_us_%E2%80%93_or_else%E2%80%A6\"><\/span>Join us \u2013 or else\u2026<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Advertisers must proactively opt in to the new terms by June 5.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, if you don\u2019t [accept] your ads will no longer be eligible to serve.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Notably, agencies can accept these terms on behalf of their clients \u2013 presumably with notice, though whether that actually h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ens is beyond Google\u2019s control.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-problems-and-pontifications\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Problems_and_pontifications\"><\/span>Problems and pontifications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While this is speculative, the updated terms raise significant privacy, legal, and surveillance concerns.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-abuse-of-pricing-data\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Abuse_of_pricing_data\"><\/span>Abuse of pricing data<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Google specifically cites pricing information in its update.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This opens the door to using that data in AI-driven pricing models \u2013 potentially allowing Google to influence bidding strategies based on advertiser revenue.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-privacy\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Privacy\"><\/span>Privacy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There are serious privacy issues in shifting from simple call monitoring to full data synthesis.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the advertiser side, imagine a criminal defense firm fielding intake calls where prospective clients share incriminating details.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even more concerning is the ability to build caller-level profiles \u2013 tracking someone through multiple calls and stitching together deeply personal context.<\/p>\n<p>Someone searching for a cheap plumber because they\u2019re selling a house, due to a divorce, sparked by infidelity, while battling for custody of a diabetic child after losing a job and health insurance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That level of data mining is chilling.<\/p>\n<p><!-- START INLINE FORM --><\/p>\n<p><!-- END INLINE FORM --><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color has-css-opacity has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ymyl-industries\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"YMYL_industries\"><\/span>YMYL industries<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Some industries may need to opt out entirely.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Raif Palmer put it bluntly:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cI don\u2019t think lawyers can agree, which means they can\u2019t use LSA period.\u201d\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With confidentiality obligations and Google claiming rights to recorded conversations, legal and medical professionals may have no ethical choice but to walk away.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear whether Google will eventually make exemptions for industries under the \u201cYour Money or Your Life\u201d (YMYL) umbrella.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ai-overviews\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"AI_Overviews\"><\/span>AI Overviews<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>All this data \u2013 from images and websites to recorded calls \u2013 feeds AI Overviews.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Businesses that embrace the ecosystem could gain visibility, as Google builds richer business profiles from this content stream.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-intake\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Intake\"><\/span>Intake<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Success in the AI Overviews era may come down to the first impression.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Think: a friendly, keyword-savvy receptionist, or an automated message carefully crafted to hit all the right search triggers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In law, for example, intake staff might soon be coached to \u201cgroom\u201d the AI Overviews:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cYes, Attorney Jones has 22 years of experience in divorce law in the greater Chattanooga metro.
