Sign up now!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers at WUST will use Spark for computer science research. \u201cThe system will offer students in Poland direct access to the actual quantum computer for practical programming in quantum computing,\u201d said Bo\u017cejko. \u201cOur goal is to conduct research and educate IT specialists.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Getting_scientists_quantum-ready\"><\/span>Getting scientists quantum-ready<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spark only has 5-qubits \u2014 the lower end of the scale \u2014\u00a0and doesn\u2019t have the computing power to outperform classical computers. However, it still provides an important testbed to familiarise researchers with quantum mechanics and prepare them for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">quantum utility.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> That\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the point at which quantum computers provide practical advantages over classical computers in solving specific real-world problems<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IQM \u2014\u00a0whose CEO is speaking at <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/41IbD3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TNW Conference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on June 19 \u2014\u00a0is targeting quantum utility as early as next year, through some much larger machines with many more qubits than Spark. It\u2019s also developed an entire business based around getting scientists and corporations ready for quantum utility right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Founded in 2018, IQM has raised $210mn to date, making it Europe\u2019s second best-funded quantum computing company after Quantinuum. According to <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-04-01\/finnish-quantum-startup-iqm-in-talks-to-raise-over-200-million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bloomberg<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the startup is also in talks to raise over $200mn in fresh capital, which would bring its total funding to over $400mn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Located in Finland\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thriving quantum startup ecosystem<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> IQM has built over 30 full-stack quantum computers to date at its facility in Espoo, west of the capital, Helsinki.
