These are just some of the musical highlights of <i>Everybody\u2019s Live<\/i>, the John Mulaney chat show breathing new life into the stale late night landscape. \n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-270337\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            There is an air of chaos to Mulaney\u2019s fever dream of a late night show, which <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/title\/81912996\">broadcasts weekly live on Netflix<\/a>. It\u2019s ostensibly a discussion show with celebrity guests and an expert gathering to discuss a weekly <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a> and, later, take calls from the public. While Jimmy Fallon guffaws on <i>The Tonight Show<\/i> as his guests promote the latest Marvel blockbuster, <i>Everybody\u2019s Live<\/i> has John Waters and co<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n Stavros Halkias talking about squatters rights.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            Some guests look perplexed. Others, including the excellent Quinta Brunson (subject \u201cAre cruises worth it\u201d), embrace the chaos. Ayo Edeberi described Mulaney in a recent episode as both \u201csober and a father\u201d and \u201cspiritually on crack,\u201d accurately summing up the loose and unpredictable vibe of an average episode. Mulaney perhaps put it best himself when he joked \u201cNot since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-270336\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left embed\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mannequin Pussy - I Got Heaven | Everybody&#039;s Live with John Mulaney\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JJr6hhRSh28?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-270338\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            That gag underplays what <i>Everybody\u2019s Live<\/i> is doing, though. It\u2019s not unplanned, just unrestrained. Nobody is allowed to go through the motions, including the live musical guests. In the latest episode Maggie Rogers and John Cale performed the latter\u2019s 2024 song \u201cShark-Shark\u201d together (they also chatted about dentistry on the couch). That\u2019s not a duo many people would have paired together and yet the cross-generational Cale and Rogers found a space between his avant-garde tendencies and her pop melodies. Upon releasing the song in 2024 Cale said, \u201cWhen you\u02bcre feeling too much of the real world, the best diversion is something that puts a grin on your face.\u201d  They could make that the logline for <i>Everybody\u2019s Live<\/i>.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Other grin-inducing performances have included Metz, the Toronto punk band that only split six months ago, reuniting and playing in a fake snow storm (it was a Christmas episode filmed in April) and the New Century Chamber Orchestra performing a Vivaldi piece Mulaney explained is his 3-year-old son\u2019s favorite. Where many late night shows have become a pit stop on the promotional tour, <i>Everybody\u2019s Live<\/i> feels more like a playground for music lovers desperate to show something new. Case in point, Kim Deal and Kim Gordon teamed up to perform their 1995 Sonic Youth collaboration \u201cLittle Trouble Girl\u201d live for the first time. \n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-270339\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kim Gordon &amp; Kim Deal - Little Trouble Girl | Everybody\u2019s Live with John Mulaney\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KFyUV4gwCas?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-270340\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Music bleeds its way into the humor of the show, too. Sketches including \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/-05lZWyyab0\">What if Seinfeld was Phish<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=l-9Z-J8NGdc\">The making of a Charli xcx joke<\/a>\u201d help break up the chats. Charlie Wilson, meanwhile, sang &#8220;America the Beautiful&#8221; as part of a stunt where men of various heights lined up in a perfectly diagonal line. Another episode began with a long anecdote from Mulaney about his attempts at booking Bone Thugs-N-Harmony only for a scammer posing as their manager to attempt to shake him down for $75,000.\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            It\u2019s not that the art of the late night performance is dead. Hardcore band Knocked Loose <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AYeDnOLfl0g\">pushed genre boundaries<\/a> on Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s show last year while <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ggg45-e4oj0\">Doechii\u2019s ornately-choreographed performance on <i>The Late Show<\/i><\/a> in December was one of the first showcases of her theatrical side. But talent bookers at shows like these have <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/suchgreatheights.substack.com\/p\/when-fallon-was-cool?r=76ki&amp;utm_medium=ios&amp;triedRedirect=true\">spoken<\/a> about the music sections essentially acting as fodder for their YouTube channels as much as the TV broadcasts (with many essentially acting as a signal to viewers that the show is over).\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            While that has opened lanes for rising artists to get a turn in front of the cameras, it\u2019s hard for the formula to avoid feeling stale after a while. <i>Everybody\u2019s Live<\/i> is carving its musical niche by being eclectic and exclusive.
