\n\tEd Sheeran is celebrating the forthcoming release of his album Play<\/em> by releasing its latest single, \u201cOld Phone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe four-time Grammy Award winner announced Thursday that his next record will be out September 12. To celebrate the occasion, he also released the project\u2019s second single. <\/p>\n

\n\tSheeran opened up about the inspiration behind Play<\/em> in an Instagram post where he admitted the \u201calbum that was made as a direct response to the darkest period of my life,\u201d which prompted him to \u201cto create joy and technicolour, and explore cultures in the countries I was touring\u201d while creating the record.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI made this record all over the world, finished it in Goa, India, and had some of the most fun, explorative creative days of my life,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s a real rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish, it encapsulates everything that I love about music, and the fun in it, but also where I am in life as a human, a partner, a father.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tAlmost a month prior to his announcement, Sheeran dropped \u201cAzizam,\u201d the album\u2019s first single that was produced by Ilyah Salmanzadeh, who\u2019s worked with the likes of Ariana Grande, Charli xcx and Tate Mcrae. The idea for the new track came when the producer \u201csuggested trying out making music inspired by his Persian heritage and culture,\u201d Sheeran shared on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cAzizam\u201d is a term of endearment<\/a> that means \u201cmy dear.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tPlay<\/em>\u2019s tracklist includes both \u201cAzizam\u201d and \u201cOld Phone,\u201d totaling to 13 tracks<\/a> with no reported features.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe singer-songwriter\u2019s last album, Autumn Variations<\/em>, released in 2023 and landed at No. 4 on Billboard<\/em>\u2019s 200 Albums chart<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
