\n\tIt sounds like Discoveryco. may be a reality.<\/p>\n

\n\tWarner Bros. Discovery is \u201cmoving towards\u2026a split,\u201d CNBC\u2019s David Faber reported on Thursday, in a news<\/a> update that broke right after the company\u2019s quarterly earnings results and call with Wall Street analysts. Faber added, \u201cand it\u2019s become relatively clear to me from the many conversations that I\u2019ve had that we could get some sort of an announcement in the not-too-distant future that they are planning to try to split the company.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFaber said that is \u201calmost definitely\u201d will see the Warner Bros. studios paired with Max, leaving WBD\u2019s cable networks as the odd assets out. It\u2019s basically exactly what NBCUniversal is doing to Faber.<\/p>\n

\n\tA spokesperson for Warner Bros. Discovery did not immedia<\/a>tely respond to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u2019s request for comment on the Faber report.<\/p>\n

\n\tNBCU is spinning off most of its cable assets \u2014 minus Bravo and including CNBC \u2014 into a new company now called Versant (fka \u201cSpinCo.\u201d) and led by Mark Lazarus. Digital assets like the Golf Now app<\/a>, Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango will also be part of Versant. Almost immediately after the original announcement of SpinCo., media analysts and reporters began to ask when Warner Bros. Discovery will do the same \u2014 and will Skydance Paramount do the same immediately after that merger clears? Disney CEO Bob Iger had publicly said in July 2023 that his studio\u2019s legacy TV networks, including ABC, \u201cmay not be core\u201d to the company; he\u2019s since walked that back.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn December, WBD began reorganizing its corporate structure into a global linear TV division, separate from its streaming and studios division. The new corporate structure aims to bolster its \u201cstrategic flexibility and create potential opportunities to unlock additional shareholder value,\u201d per a company filing at the time. The initiative is expected to be complete in mid-2025 \u2014 guess what part of 2025 we\u2019re approaching?<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey\u2019ve already done all of the reapportioning necessary,\u201d Faber said. \u201cAnd I would note as well, in their earnings report, for the first time, they break out every segment in its own financials. That is usually a tell, right? Streaming has its own page, studios and linear, global linear segments, network segment as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSo what is WBD waiting for? Well, it\u2019s still got like $35 billion in debt to appropriate across Warner Bros. core and Discovery.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt will take quite some time to actually happen,\u201d Faber said.<\/p>\n

\n\tWBD was formed just a few years ago as a combination of David Zaslav\u2019s Discovery, Inc. and AT&T\u2019s WarnerMedia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
