Drake has been called out by UMG in their latest filing to dismiss his defamation lawsuit against them.<\/p>\n

Drizzy recently amended his lawsuit against his own record label to update it with what he claims is more recent evidence that support his claims of being defamed, specifically citing Kendrick Lamar\u2019s performance at the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

In a new filing, UMG have motioned to dismiss the amended lawsuit, addressing the Canadian rapp<\/a>er\u2019s new claims.<\/p>\n

The filing criticizes Drake\u2019s claim that Lamar\u2019s Super Bowl performance is evidence of defamation: \u201cAs Drake concedes, Lamar\u2019s Super Bowl performance did not include the lyric that Drake or his associates are \u2018certified pedophiles\u2019 (i.e., the alleged \u2018Defamatory Material\u2019 that is at the heart of this case).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe focus of Drake\u2019s new claims\u2014that \u2018the largest audience for a Super Bowl halftime show ever\u2019 did not hear Lamar call Drake or his crew pedophiles\u2014betrays this case for what it is: Drake\u2019s attack on the commercial and creative success of the rap artist who defeated him, rather than the content of Lamar\u2019s lyrics.\u201d<\/p>\n

A statement from UMG also blasts Drake as a hypocrite given his own songs contained claims about Lamar.<\/p>\n

The statement reads: \u201cNowhere in the hundred-plus page \u2018legal\u2019 blather written by Drake\u2019s lawyers do they bother to acknowledge that Drake himself has written and performed massively successful songs containing equally provocative taunts against other artists. Nor do they mention that it was Drake who started this particular exchange.<\/p>\n

\u201cApparently, Drake\u2019s lawyers believe that when Drake willingly participates in a performative rap-battle of music and poetry, he can be \u2018defamed\u2019 even though he engages in the exact same form of creative expression.\u201d<\/p>\n

They added: \u201cDrake\u2019s lawyers can also keep seeking to \u2018uncover\u2019 evidence of wild conspiracies as to why one song that upset Drake had massive global appeal, but there is nothing to \u2018uncover.\u2019 Except for this: by working tirelessly in partnership with our artists, we achieve global success for them and their music.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur continuing partnership with Drake and his enduring success is a shining example. Despite his lawyers\u2019 attempts to silence other artists and threaten the companies that work with them, we remain committed to propelling Drake\u2019s career while maintaining our unwavering support of all our artists\u2019 creative expression. Drake and his legal team have not yet responded to the filing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
