\n Federal customs agents seized 2,000 allegedly counterfeit earbuds at JFK Airport \u2014 only to have the manufacturer demand their return.<\/p>\n

US Customs and Border Patrol said the shipment of knock-off App<\/a>le AirPods was discovered in an air cargo facility after arriving from Hong Kong en route to Nevada.<\/p>\n

\u201cTHAT\u2019S NOT AN [APPLE],\u201d the CPB tweeted Sunday, using a red fruit emoji.<\/p>\n

The tweet also included two photos of the seized goods, including a red-and-white box labeled \u201cOnePlus Buds.\u201d<\/p>\n

The merchandise, if genuine, would have been worth $398,000, the CPB added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe interception of these counterfeit earbuds is a direct reflection of the vigilance and commitment to mission success by our CBP Officers daily,\u201d CPB Director of New York Field Operations Troy Miller said in a statement.<\/p>\n

But in response, OnePlus USA tweeted early Monday, \u201cHey, give us those back!\u201d along with an upside-down smiley face.<\/p>\n

The company later followed up with a tweet that mockingly alluded to the incident, saying, \u201cSeize the day. Seize the music. #OnePlusBuds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several online news<\/a> reports noted that the OnePlus wireless earbuds \u2014 which retail for just $79 a pair, compared to $199 for comparable Apple AirPods \u2014 aren\u2019t fraudulently marketed as Apple products.<\/p>\n

But a CPB spokesperson told the Ars Technica website that the OnePlus items \u201cappeared to violate\u201d Apple\u2019s \u201cconfiguration trademarks on their brand of earbuds.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCBP\u2019s seizure of the earbuds in question is unrelated to the images or language on the box,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cA company does not have to put an \u2018Apple\u2019 wordmark or design on their products to violate these trademarks. The importer will have many opportunities through the adjudication process to provide evidence that their product does not violate the relevant recorded trademarks.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
