{"id":668377,"date":"2025-05-11T04:17:07","date_gmt":"2025-05-11T01:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/google-will-pay-texas-1-4-billion-to-settle-privacy-lawsuits\/"},"modified":"2025-05-11T04:17:07","modified_gmt":"2025-05-11T01:17:07","slug":"google-will-pay-texas-1-4-billion-to-settle-privacy-lawsuits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/google-will-pay-texas-1-4-billion-to-settle-privacy-lawsuits\/","title":{"rendered":"Google will pay Texas $1.4 billion to settle privacy lawsuits"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google has agreed to pay the state of Texas $1.375 billion to settle two lawsuits accusing the company of tracking users\u2019 personal location, incognito searches, and voice and facial data without their permission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawsuits were brought by Texas Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Ken Paxton in 2022. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a>\u2019s parent company Meta agreed to pay a similar amount to settle a facial recognition-related lawsuit from Paxton last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn Texas, Big Tech is not above the law,\u201d Paxton said in <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/news\/releases\/attorney-general-ken-paxton-secures-historic-1375-billion-settlement-google-related-texans-data\">a statement<\/a>. \u201cFor years, Google secretly tracked people\u2019s movements, private searches, and even their voiceprints and facial geometry through their products and services. I fought back and won.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paxton\u2019s office also said this is the \u201chighest recovery nationwide against Google for any attorney general\u2019s enforcement of state privacy laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Google spokesperson said the company is settling the lawsuits without any admission of wrongdoing or liability, and without having to change any of its products.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis settles a raft of old claims, many of which have already been resolved elsewhere, concerning product policies we have long since changed,\u201d said spokesperson Jos\u00e9 Casta\u00f1eda in a statement. \u201cWe are pleased to put them behind us, and we will continue to build robust privacy controls into our services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google won some earlier victories in these suits, for example with an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eals court ruling that <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/litigation\/google-escapes-texas-suit-over-location-tracking-search-history\">the company lacks sufficient ties to Texas<\/a> to face a lawsuit there.
