\n President Trump on Monday honed his reelection pitch for Latinos, saying Democrat Joe Biden would reduce safety and economic opportunity \u2014 turning their American dream into an \u201cAmerican nightmare.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve achieved more for Hispanic Americans in 47 months than Joe Biden achieved in 47 years. They don\u2019t call him Sleepy Joe for nothing,\u201d Trump told a packed hotel ballroom audience in Phoenix, Arizona.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy Latinos. I love the Latinos. But I\u2019ve always known how great you were,\u201d Trump said during an 80-minute roundtable of businesspeople and officials that at points resembled a campaign rally.<\/p>\n

Trump said Biden would end the economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and invoked increases in violent crime in major cities following the May killing of George Floyd by Minnesota police.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave you seen his peaceful protesters?\u201d Trump said. \u201cThey\u2019ll rip down your community. Many of these are Hispanic American small businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMany Hispanic Americans came here to pursue the American dream, right?\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want the American dream. Having left countries that did not have safe streets \u2014 many of you, or your family, Your mothers, your fathers, they left countries that were very very bad, very bad, a lot of problems. And if we let this go on, you\u2019d have that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The largely unmasked crowd sat closely together and chanted, \u201cUSA! USA! USA!\u201d<\/p>\n

Democrat Hillary Clinton took two-thirds of the Hispanic vote in 2016 against Trump, who ran on a pledge to build a US-Mexico border wall. But some recent polls show Trump dramatically improving his standing, particularly in Florida.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s outreach in Arizona comes as polls show him down to Biden in the state, which Trump won by against Clinton by 3.5 percentage points.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is getting a lot easier to be Republican for, as you say, minorities. It\u2019s getting a lot easier whether you\u2019re Hispanic or anything else,\u201d Trump said. \u201cIt\u2019s a beautiful thing to see what\u2019s happ<\/a>ening with the Republican Party.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump told the crowd that Biden \u201cwill surrender your entire country to the radical left\u201d and \u201csome of you came from parts of the world where it\u2019s social<\/a>ist or worse. You know, it\u2019s called the C word, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump highlighted economic statistics from before COVID-19 struck in March.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore the China virus came in we achieved the lowest Hispanic American unemployment rate ever,\u201d Trump said. \u201cOver 600,000 Hispanic Americans were lifted out of poverty in that short period of time. That\u2019s a record.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amid the recovery, \u201cwe had a 3.3 million jobs for Hispanic Americans in the last four months \u2014 it\u2019s a record. So we\u2019re coming back very very strong,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Trump, who travel<\/a>ed from Nevada to California earlier in the day for a wildfire briefing before flying to Arizona, ridiculed Biden\u2019s stamina.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou need a lot of a lot of energy to do this job properly. You can\u2019t be sitting in your basement for four days,\u201d he said. \u201cI like Delaware. I think Delaware is a good place, but you gotta leave it on occasion.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
