AI startup Cohere has acquired Ottogrid<\/a>, a Vancouver-based platform that develops enterprise tools for automating certain kinds of high-level market research.<\/p>\n

Sully Omar, one of the founders of Ottogrid, announced the deal Friday in a post on X<\/a>. He didn\u2019t disclose the terms.<\/p>\n

Ottogrid will sunset its product, according to Omar, but will give customers \u201cample notice\u201d and \u201ca reasonable transition period.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very excited to join the Cohere team and integrate Ottogrid into Cohere\u2019s\u00a0\u2026 platform,\u201d Omar said in a statement. \u201cThrough our work with Cohere, we\u2019re [going to] dramatically impact how people can automate their workflows, enrich their data, and scale their operations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cohere didn\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n

Cohere\u2019s purchase of Ottogrid comes as the former experiences a bit of corporate turbulence. According to The Information<\/a>, Cohere fell well short of revenue projections the company prepared in early 2023,\u00a0missing its target for last year by 85%.<\/p>\n

The company told Reuters<\/a> on Thursday that its annualized revenue recently reached $100 million, following a strategic shift with a focus on private AI deployments for customers in sectors like healthcare, government, and finance.<\/p>\n

Ottogrid launched in 2023 as Cognosys, led by Omar and Homam Malkawi. It rebranded in October 2024 with a major platform redesign that introduced a number of new integrations, tools, and APIs.<\/p>\n

Today, Ottogrid offers a \u201cnative table interface\u201d with AI-powered document analysis capabilities. Customers can use it to extract data from a website and save it directly to a spreadsheet, for example, or automatically enrich sales lead lists. <\/p>\n

Ottogrid managed to raise $2 million in venture capital from investors, including GV (Google Ventures), Untapp<\/a>ed Capital, Replit CEO Amjad Masad, Vercel CEO Guillermo Rauch, Cohere co-founders Ivan Zhang and Aidan Gomez, and others prior to its exit, according to Crunchbase<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As part of Cohere, Omar says that Ottogrid will focus primarily on North, Cohere\u2019s recently launched ChatGPT-style application designed to assist knowledge workers with tasks such as summarizing documents.<\/p>\n

Updated 2:03 p.m. Pacific: In a statement, Cohere CEO Aidan Gome<\/em>z said:<\/em> \u201cI\u2019m super excited to bring the Ottogrid team aboard and incorporate Ottogrid\u2019s product directly into North. We\u2019re bringing enterprises a new way to tackle research with smart tables, helping make employees\u2019 day-to-day work more enjoyable and productive.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
